Bills Injury Analysis

Although the names on Buffalo’s side aren’t surprising, they’re significant. For one, Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard (pectoral) will miss this game. With fellow LB Matt Milano (biceps) on injured reserve, Buffalo won’t have two of its projected starters entering the season.

Bernard is one of the better run-stoppers at his position. While Jacksonville’s offensive line has struggled to create rushing lanes for Travis Etienne and Co., Bernard’s absence will simplify this task.

Moreover, the Bills won’t have nickelback Taron Johnson (forearm) available. Johnson has not suited up since leaving their season-opening win versus the Cardinals. PFF named him and Rasul Douglas among the NFL’s top-32 cornerbacks entering the year.

Coming off consecutive one-score losses, expect Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ offense to have success against this banged-up unit. Despite the Bills’ blowout win over the Dolphins in Week 2, the expected score margin was much closer, as Miami scuffled in plus-territory.

Jaguars Injury Analysis

Bernard’s injury is somewhat mitigated by Jacksonville missing its starting tight end, Evan Engram (hamstring), who’s most effective in the middle of the field. However, the Jaguars operate with 11 personnel at the league’s 11th-highest rate (73.6%), meaning its three wideout sets should take advantage of Johnson remaining out.

Backup running back Tank Bigsby (shoulder), who left during the second quarter of the home opener against Cleveland, is questionable.

Jacksonville’s secondary remains depleted, as safety Darnell Savage will sit out for a second straight week. The Jaguars are already without stud corner Tyson Campbell (IR) and safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. (suspension).

Bengals Injury Analysis

Cincinnati will have wide receiver Tee Higgins (hamstring) on the field for the first time in 2024, but the other side of the ball isn’t in ideal shape. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (hamstring) was ruled out after not practicing Saturday. After allowing the fourth-most EPA per carry through two weeks, Washington tailback Brian Robinson Jr. could be in for a big night.

Safety Von Bell (back) also failed to practice over the weekend. Bell, one of the integral pieces in Lou Anarumo’s defense, is listed as questionable.

Commanders Injury Analysis

Washington has compiled the NFL’s third-highest pressure rate, but the absence of defensive end Clelin Ferrell (knee) could loom large. Considering Ferrell has recorded the team’s only two sacks thus far, the Bengals’ below-average offensive line is positioned with their best matchup yet — at least on paper.
