Best MLB Bets Today: Player Props for May 30
Reid Detmers under 5.5 strikeouts at -100 on FanDuel Sportsbook is my top MLB bet today as the Los Angeles Angels visit the Tampa Bay Rays.
Detmers has legitimate strikeout stuff. He ranks in the 85th percentile in strikeout rate and well above league average in both whiff rate and chase rate per Baseball Savant. He's also coming off a massive 14-strikeout game against the Rangers, so fading him here might feel uncomfortable. But this is a new day and a new matchup.
Tampa Bay burned us earlier this week on a Gerrit Cole strikeout under, but that was against a right-handed pitcher. Today, however, we have a lefty on the mound, and that split is a slightly different story. The Rays own a microscopic 14.4% strikeout rate against left-handed pitchers in May per FanGraphs. That's not a small sample, either, with nearly 300 plate appearances logged against lefties in May. If you've been following this column, you know Tampa Bay is a nightmare matchup for strikeout props. Getting this under at essentially even money is too good to pass up.

MLB Player Props Today: Sonny Gray Under 4.5 Strikeouts
Sonny Gray under 4.5 strikeouts at +118 is another one of my best MLB player props today as the Cleveland Guardians host the Boston Red Sox. If you're more comfortable at 5.5, that number is available with heavier juice elsewhere in the industry, but I'll take the plus money at 4.5.
Gray is pitching to a sparkling 3.27 ERA, but his expected ERA sits at 4.38, which marks a significant gap that tells a more honest story about where he is right now. More importantly, he's striking out just 18% of hitters this season and ranks in just the 19th percentile in whiff rate and 44th percentile in chase rate per Baseball Savant. He's a shell of the dominant strikeout arm he once was.
The matchup makes this even cleaner. The Guardians have been outstanding from a contact standpoint in May. They've logged nearly 700 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers and own the best strikeout rate in the league at just 17.8% since May 1. Rookie Travis Bazzana has injected life into the leadoff spot and is hitting .300 on the season. Getting +118 on this number is a fantastic price.

For my MLB home run picks today, we're heading to Dodger Stadium, where the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Philadelphia Phillies. We're targeting Roki Sasaki, who has been completely overmatched in 2026. Sasaki ranks in just the 11th percentile in both hard-hit rate and barrel rate per Baseball Savant. Left-handed hitters are slugging .480 against him this season, and he's already surrendered nine home runs on the year.
Kyle Schwarber at +240 is my favorite home run pick today. Yes, it's a chalky pick, but I love the spot. Schwarber is having another outstanding season, and the conditions at Dodger Stadium tonight set up well, as a slight breeze should blow out toward right-center field.
