MLB Today’s Best Bets for May 12: Home Run Picks & Top Player Props
Welcome back! We're here to break down the best MLB bets today across a total bases prop, a strikeout under, and a home run bet. Our MLB picks today hit James Wood in a dream matchup with Brady Singer, fade Bryan Woo in a brutal spot against the Astros, and include Mike Trout as one of my favorite MLB home run picks today. Let's get into the best MLB player props for Tuesday, May 12.
Best MLB Bets Today: Player Props for May 12
James Wood over 1.5 total bases at +120 on BetMGM Sportsbook is my top MLB bet today. I can't pass on getting better than even money on this prop.
Wood draws Brady Singer, who has been well below the league average in hard-hit rate and barrel rate allowed, with an expected ERA of 5.74 per Baseball Savant. Singer's pitch mix aligns with exactly what Wood crushes.
Singer is allowing an ISO north of .200 overall and throws his sinker more than 44% of the time to left-handed hitters, which is yielding a .208 ISO to lefties so far this year. Wood posted a .349 ISO against right-handed sinkers last season, per Baseball Savant, and a .221 ISO overall against righties.
Wood is also rounding into form, picking up an extra-base hit in four of his last six games. The icing on the cake is the environment. It's projected to be north of 70 degrees at Great American Ball Park, which is one of the best hitting venues in the sport, regardless of temperature. Great price, great matchup, and easily one of my favorite MLB player props today.
Best Bet: James Wood Over 1.5 Total Bases BetMGM, +120
MLB Player Props Today: Bryan Woo Under 5.5 Strikeouts
Bryan Woo under 5.5 strikeouts at +115 on BetMGM Sportsbook is another plus-money number headlining our MLB player props today as the Seattle Mariners travel to Houston to battle the Astros.
There's no doubt Woo is a quality pitcher. But per Baseball Savant, he's below the league average in both strikeout rate and whiff rate — and the matchup is brutal. The Astros are striking out just 21.3% of the time against right-handed pitchers per FanGraphs. Woo himself is only striking out around 20% of hitters, and Houston is projected to send out six hitters who are striking out less than 20% of the time against right-handed pitching so far this season.
This prop is another competitive number at better than even money, making this one of my favorite MLB picks today.
Best Bet: Bryan Woo Under 5.5 Strikeouts BetMGM, +115
Up To $1500 in Bonus Bets Paid Back if your First Bet Does Not Win Home Run Picks Today: Mike Trout
For my MLB home run picks today, the Los Angeles Angels travel to Cleveland to take on the Guardians, with Slade Cecconi set to toe the rubber. Cecconi has already allowed eight home runs this season after giving up 27 a year ago. He's been a bit of a reverse-splits pitcher in 2026, allowing a .266 ISO to right-handed hitters. His cutter has played, but right-handed batters have been pulverizing his two secondary pitches.
This matchup is screaming Mike Trout, which is why he headlines our home run picks today. You can get Trout to hit a home run at +370 on FanDuel Sportsbook. Trout has always flashed reverse-splits tendencies, and the power is absolutely there in 2026 now that he's healthy. He has a .269 ISO against right-handed pitchers this year, but his expected ISO is nearly 90 points higher at .355 per Baseball Savant. That means he's been a bit unlucky from a power standpoint.
It's supposed to be in the mid-60s at Progressive Field, so not an exceptional hitting environment, but this remains one of my favorite home run picks today. Give me Trout to go deep.
Best Bet: Mike Trout to Hit a Home Run FanDuel, +370
