MLB Today’s Best Bets for June 24: Home Run Picks & Top Player Props
Welcome back to my best MLB bets for June 24! This slate is serving up a pair of pitching unders against pesky lineups and home run picks today in the thin air at Coors Field. Here are my top MLB picks for Wednesday!
Best MLB Bets Today: Player Props for June 24
Mike Burrows under 15.5 outs at -136 on DraftKings Sportsbook is my top MLB bet today. The Houston Astros square off with the Toronto Blue Jays, and it's a tough draw for the righty.
I had high hopes for Burrows, and I'm sure the Astros had them too. However, things just haven't been pretty. He owns a 5.79 ERA backed by a 26th-percentile expected ERA, with a 26% strikeout rate. Burrows' other issue is failing to keep the ball on the ground. His chase rate is solid, but he's profiling as a well-below-average starter overall.
Toronto, meanwhile, is one of the toughest lineups for a righty to navigate this year. The Blue Jays own the second-best strikeout rate against right-handed pitching since the beginning of May, and that pairs with the 12th-best wRC+ mark against righties in that window. Burrows is going to have to grind through these at-bats and pile up pitches, and with the game on the road, I like the under here.
Best Bet: Mike Burrows Under 15.5 Outs DraftKings, -136
MLB Player Props Today: Rhett Lowder Under 4.5 Strikeouts
Rhett Lowder under 4.5 strikeouts is another one of my favorite MLB player props today as the Cincinnati Reds host the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ball Park.
Lowder was a highly touted prospect, and some still consider him one, but the results have been rough this season. He's carrying a 4.82 ERA and ranks well below league average in just about every advanced metric. His 5.23 expected ERA actually says he's been a touch lucky to this point. He sits in the 9th percentile in chase rate and just the 14th percentile in whiff rate according to Baseball Savant.
There's some juice on this one; however, I think it's warranted. The Brewers are one of the peskiest lineups in baseball to put away. They own the 8th-best strikeout rate against right-handed pitching since May 1st and the 4th-best mark when you run it back across the whole season. Milwaukee also packs a top-five wRC+ mark against righties, so there's plenty of opportunity for Lowder to get into trouble, run up the pitch count, or get yanked early.
Best Bet: Rhett Lowder Under 4.5 Strikeouts DraftKings, -152
New DraftKings Customers: Spend $5+ Get $200 in Bonuses Instantly! Home Run Picks Today: Willson Contreras
Now, for some MLB home run picks today! We're heading to Coors Field, where Kyle Freeland is back on the mound against the Red Sox. He's been brutal this season, and not much has changed.
Freeland keeps the ball on the ground at a below-average clip and ranks in just the 16th percentile in hard-hit rate and 20th percentile in barrel rate allowed per Baseball Savant. Worse, he's in just the 8th percentile in average exit velocity, so the ball is getting absolutely scorched when it's put in play. He's sporting a 7.36 ERA and has been just as bad on the road as he has at home, surrendering 13 home runs to right-handed hitters already.
Boston has a ton of left-handed bats, but there's one specific righty with 16 home runs who rakes against southpaws. Enter Willson Contreras, who owns a .607 slugging mark against lefties this season. He's also tallied five homers and two doubles in just 61 at-bats in the split. And of course, this is Coors Field, which is always a great venue for power. We might see a little rain, but temperatures are projected in the low 80s. It should be wheels up for Contreras against Freeland on Wednesday.
Best Bet: Willson Contreras to Hit a Home Run DraftKings, +264
Good luck! Let's cash these MLB best bets.
