MLB Today’s Best Bets for August 14: Home Run Picks & Top Player Props
Happy Friday! Welcome back to my best MLB bets for August 14. We’ve got a full slate on deck, and I’m rolling with two pitcher props plus a home run pick today that I really like. Now, let’s dive into my top MLB player props for today’s action!
Best MLB Bets Today: Player Props for August 14
Chase Burns over 6.5 strikeouts at +106 on DraftKings Sportsbook is my top MLB bet today. The Cincinnati Reds visit the Miami Marlins, and any time I can get even money or better for Burns to rack up seven strikeouts, I’m interested.
Miami has been a completely average strikeout team against right-handed pitching over the last two months. The Marlins have ranked roughly in the middle of the pack in strikeout rate against righties since the beginning of July. That is not necessarily a dream matchup, but Burns is not your average pitcher.
He remains one of the game’s elite arms and a true superstar in the making. Burns is striking out nearly 29% of the batters he faces, backed by a 90th-percentile whiff rate and an 86th-percentile chase rate, according to Baseball Savant. You really can’t ask for much more from a strikeout profile.
Six strikeouts are almost a given whenever Burns takes the mound, and I like the odds of him getting that seventh punchout at a better-than-even-money price. This is close to an auto-bet for me whenever this number is available. Give me Burns to get the job done.
Best Bet: Chase Burns Over 6.5 Strikeouts DraftKings, +106
MLB Player Props Today: Landen Roupp Over 17.5 Outs
Next, we’re heading to the Bay Area, where Landen Roupp and the San Francisco Giants host the Colorado Rockies in a late-night hammer. I’m taking Roupp over 17.5 pitching outs at -155 on DraftKings.
Colorado’s hitters obviously get a major boost from playing at Coors Field, but the road version of the Rockies is the same story every year. Since July 1, Colorado ranks 25th in weighted runs created plus against right-handed pitching away from home. Leaving Denver for Oracle Park is one of the biggest ballpark downgrades in baseball, especially for a night game in San Francisco.
Roupp has been somewhat unlucky this season. He owns a 4.22 ERA, but his expected ERA is all the way down at 3.52. He rarely gives up barrels or hard contact, and he does a nice job keeping the ball on the ground. Those are all traits I want when backing a pitcher to work six innings.
Roupp is due for some more positive regression, and I’m willing to pay a little juice here.
Best Bet: Landen Roupp Over 17.5 Pitching Outs DraftKings, -155

Now for my MLB home run pick today! I’m going with Ben Rice to hit a home run at +340 on DraftKings as the New York Yankees face Shane Bieber and the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
It has been a small sample for Bieber this season, but left-handed hitters have already done serious damage against him. He has allowed a .271 expected ISO to lefties, and that makes multiple Yankees bats live to leave the yard. Trent Grisham and Spencer Jones have both been swinging it well lately, but I’m going with one of the best left-handed hitters in baseball.
Rice has been a true breakout superstar, and his advanced metrics are through the roof. At +340, we are getting a really generous number on a hitter chasing home run No. 33 this season.
Toronto’s bullpen is pretty good, which may be why the price is this high, but Rice has a real chance to do damage early against Bieber.
Best Bet: Ben Rice to Hit a Home Run DraftKings, +340
Good luck, and let’s cash some MLB best bets today!
