It’s the first week of August and the trade deadline is in the rear view mirror. We’ve got an full 15-game slate Wednesday, starting at 2:10 pm ET when the Blue Jays finish up an early week set in the Lone Star State with the Astros. The schedule gives plenty of opportunities to find the best MLB bets today, including the top home run props. After looking over the slate, we’ve identified our favorite plays to bolster your bankroll. Without further ado, let’s get to the best options on the board for Wednesday, August 5.
Best MLB Bets Today: Player Props for August 5
Ryan Jeffers, Twins Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110, Hard Rock)
Jeffers was rumored to potentially be dealt ahead of the trade deadline, primarily to the Yankees. However, that didn’t come to fruition and he looks to help the Twins make a push for a wild card spot down the stretch. On the season, Jeffers entered Tuesday hitting .291 with 10 homers and 36 RBI for the year. In addition, he has a .323 average against lefties this year. As it happens, the Royals project to send Noah Cameron to the mound for this one, who is a lefty. Jeffers hits him well in his career, going five of 11. Meanwhile, two of those five hits are doubles so one swing of the bat could cash this prop.
Jose Altuve, Astros Over 1.5 Total Bases (+200, FanDuel)
It’s been a bit of a down year for the 36-year-old Altuve, who entered Tuesday hitting just .236 on the year. He has 14 doubles, one triple, 12 homers and 31 RBI in 348 at-bats. Altuve is a better hitter at Daikin Park, posting a .246 mark with eight homers and 19 RBI this year. In his career, Altuve has a .300 average with 230 doubles, 14 triples, 145 homers and 452 RBI over 4,041 at-bats at Daikin Park. When it comes to facing Wednesday’s starter for the Blue Jays, Jameson Taillon, Altuve turns it up a notch, hitting .294 (five of 17) against him. In addition, he has two doubles and a homer off Taillon. He cashes here as the Astros continue to battle for a playoff spot.
Sean Burke, White Sox Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-158, DraftKings)
Burke is a major reason the White Sox are in the mix for a playoff spot just two seasons after losing 121 games. In addition, he enters this game 7-5 with a 3.04 ERA, a 1.102 WHIP, 37 walks and 140 strikeouts over 124.1 innings of work on the year. Burke gets a crack at a Boston squad that just added Adley Rutschman in a deal with the Orioles at the deadline. Boston is 15th in the majors in strikeout rate as they whiff an average of 8.25 times per nine innings. In addition, Burke recorded eight strikeouts in 18 at-bats by current Red Sox hitters while allowing just three hits. Look for him to go over the number in this contest.

Drake Baldwin, Braves (+450, FanDuel)
Baldwin had a solid July, posting a .324 average with six homers and 17 RBI for the month in 102 at-bats. He even drew more walks (17) than strikeouts (15) in the month, a vast turnaround from his one walk, 22 whiff performance in June. For the season, he has a .272 average with seven doubles, 20 homers and 57 RBI over 345 at-bats. He gets a crack at Eury Perez, who has struggled against the Braves in general. Atlanta hitters own a .362 average (21 of 58) with nine extra base hits, including five homers, against him. Baldwin, meanwhile, is three of six against Perez with two homers and four RBI. He has a dozen homers in 183 at-bats at Truist Park this season. Look for him to go deep in this one.
Junior Caminero, Rays (+210, Hard Rock)
Caminero is having a stellar season for the Rays in 2026. He entered Tuesday with a .283 average, 18 doubles, 32 homers and 69 RBI on the year. That includes a .268 mark with 14 homers in 213 at-bats on the road this season. In addition, Caminero gets the advantage of facing a Rockies’ team that entered Tuesday worst in the majors by allowing 5.74 runs per game. That number climbs to 6.16 runs per game at Coors Field. In Monday’s opener, Caminero’s first-ever game at Coors Field, he was two of five, scoring three runs, and homered twice in a 13-9 Tampa Bay win. In addition, Tomoyuki Sugano has surrendered 54 homers in 49 career starts in the majors. Caminero goes deep again here.
