Yordan Alvarez, Astros Over 1.5 Total Bases (-135, DraftKings)
It’s a big series between the Lone Star State rivals in Houston this weekend with the top two teams in a watered-down AL West battling. Alvarez is in the thick of a race for the Triple Crown. He enters this one hitting .321 with 20 doubles, 35 homers and 80 RBI on the year. In addition, Alvarez has a sizzling .375 average with 15 doubles, 19 homers and 44 RBI in 192 at-bats at Daikin Park this year. When it comes to facing Nathan Eovaldi, he has the upper hand. For his career, Alvarez is 12 of 25 (.480) against Eovaldi. Furthermore, he has three doubles, two homers and six RBI in those at-bats. Look for him to rake again here to cash the prop.
Hunter Greene, Reds Over 7.5 Strikeouts (+124, FanDuel)
Greene missed the first three-plus months of the season, finally making his debut on July 4. This marks just his fifth start and his numbers are a mixed bag. Greene is 2-2 despite a 7.06 ERA over 21.2 innings on the year while surrendering three homers. Meanwhile, he’s racked up 29 strikeouts in that four-start span. He gets to face a Pittsburgh squad that strikes out at the second-highest rate in the majors (9.44 strikeouts per nine innings) this season. That number climbs to 10.38 whiffs per nine on the road. Current Pittsburgh hitters have a .200 average (11 of 55) against the fireballer in his career. In addition, Greene has a 30.9% strikeout rate (17 whiffs) in those at-bats. With the strikeouts he’s racking up, roll with the over here.
Paul Skenes, Pirates Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-120, FanDuel)
Skenes is sitting at .500 on the season with a 9-9 record but facing the Reds should be a boost. Cincinnati is the league’s worst team in terms of strikeouts as they fan an average of 9.48 times per nine innings this season. That number climbs to 9.66 whiffs per nine at the Great American Ball Park. Skenes has at least seven strikeouts in 14 of his last 17 starts dating back to April 24. Current Cincinnati hitters have posted a dismal .208 (16 of 77) average against Skenes with no homers in his career. In addition, he recorded strikeouts in 27 of those at-bats, which is a 35.1% whiff rate. With the Reds floundering at the moment, look for Skenes to rack up the punchouts in this contest.

Jose Altuve, Astros (+475, Hard Rock)
It’s been a bit of a down year for the 36-year-old Altuve, who entered Thursday hitting just .234 on the year. He has 14 doubles, one triple, 12 homers and 30 RBI in 333 at-bats. Altuve is a better hitter at Daikin Park, posting a .243 mark with eight homers and 18 RBI this year. In his career, Altuve has a .300 average with 230 doubles, 14 triples, 144 homers and 449 RBI over 4,014 at-bats at Daikin Park. When it comes to facing Friday’s starter for the Rangers, Nathan Eovaldi, Altuve turns it up a notch, hitting .328 (19 of 58) against him. In addition, he’s tagged Eovaldi for seven homers. That’s four more than any other pitcher he’s faced. Back Altuve here in the start of a big series for both sides.
Liam Hicks, Marlins (Hard Rock, +1000)
Hicks tends to fly under the radar because he plays for the Marlins. He’s turned in a solid season behind the plate this year. Hicks entered Thursday hitting .279 with nine doubles, a triple, 14 homers and 60 RBI. Freddy Peralta has disappointed for the Mets this season but then again, who hasn’t? He is 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP over 113.2 innings of work. In addition, Peralta has served up 17 homers this year. Hicks faced Peralta six times in his career and has a pair of hits to his credit. Furthermore, those two hits left the yard. It’s a longer shot than some but Hicks has shown the ability to punish mistakes. He does it again here.
