MLB Today’s Best Bets for 05/25: Home Run Picks & Top Player Props

It’s a hefty 13-game slate on the diamond to start the new week Monday, starting at 1:35 pm ET when the Cubs open an early week set with the Pirates in the Steel City. Meanwhile, the Rays kick off a set with the Orioles in Charm City at the same time. The schedule gives plenty of opportunities to find the best MLB bets today, including the top home run props. Emmet Sheehan, Dodgers Under 6.5 Strikeouts (-108, FanDuel)

Sheehan had a solid three-start stretch April 24-May 8 where he fanned 25 hitters over 15.2 innings of work. He fanned at least seven in each of those three outings. The thing is, Sheehan hasn’t fanned more than six hitters in any of his six other starts entering this contest.  That includes an outing against this same Rockies squad, albeit it at Coors Field April 18. Jose Ramirez, Guardians Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100, DraftKings)

Ramirez hit a cold spell lately, going just three of 24 with a double and two RBI in his previous six games. Entering Memorial Day, he’s hitting .227 with 11 doubles, eight homers and 24 RBI on the season. He has swiped 20 bags in 22 attempts with more walks (37) than strikeouts (34) to date. Ramirez won’t get many softer landings that Monday’s starter. Zack Littell of the Nationals is 3-4 with a 5.83 ERA, a 1.446 WHIP and has allowed 15 homers in 46.1 innings. Opposing hitters own a .278/.329/.556 slash line against him this season. Ramirez is four of 11 lifetime with a pair of doubles against Littell. If it’s in the zone, Ramirez gets his bat on it and that pays dividends.

Jeff McNeil, Athletics Over 1.5 Total Bases (+145, DraftKings)

McNeil isn’t a great power hitter as he hasn’t hit more than 12 homers in a year since 2019. He has a .267 average with nine doubles, two homers and 15 RBI this season. McNeil went over this prop in three of his last six games and gets a favorable matchup in this contest. He faces Luis Castillo, who Seattle is throwing here despite a 1-5 record and a 6.41 ERA. In his career, McNeil is eight of 15 with two doubles, three homers and four RBI against him. When you have a .533/.563/1.267 slash line, that’s something worth watching. Take McNeil to cash in, especially with the friendly dimensions of Sutter Health Park.

Home Run Picks Today:

Yandy Diaz, Rays (+690, DraftKings)

Diaz continues a solid campaign as he enters this series with the Orioles. He has a .315 average with eight homers and 33 RBI on the year. Diaz has three homers and 10 RBI to his credit over the last 10 games. Diaz and the Rays square off against Kyle Bradish in this contest. He’s hit Bradish well in his career, going 10 of 22 with two doubles, one triple, a homer and five RBI. Diaz has a .283 average with eight doubles, four homers and 17 RBI in his career at Camden Yards. The odds are a bit longer than normal but he has the potential to hammer Bradish in a matinee conntest.

Nick Kurtz, Athletics (+347, DraftKings)

Kurtz hasn’t had the power break out as quickly as it did last season. With that said, he comes in hitting .290 with eight home runs and 37 RBI on the year. Kurtz is on a heater at the moment with a seven-game hit streak, during which he is 11 of 26 with eight RBI. Luis Castillo surrendered seven homers in 46.1 innings of work on the year. Kurtz, in 81 games at Sutter Health Park, has a .289/.411/.621 slash line. He has 15 doubles, 26 homers and 71 RBI in those contests. With Castillo sputtering and Kurtz swinging a hot bat, the potential for him to go deep is in the cards.
