MLB Pitcher Props for Sep. 2: Schlittler Piles Up Ks Against Overmatched Angels

We’re in the home stretch of the regular season with playoff races heating up. In addition, we’ve reached September, so expanded rosters are also in play across the majors. All 30 teams are in action on Wednesday with a half-dozen afternoon tilts on the docket. The slate kicks off with a 12:40 pm ET start when the Padres close out a series with the Reds at the Great American Ball Park.

He is 12-6 with a 2.09 ERA, a 0.971 WHIP, 42 walks and 201 strikeouts over 163.2 innings of work on the year. The Angels strike out at the third-highest rate in the majors, whiffing 9.43 times per nine innings. Schlittler is sixth in the majors in strikeouts on the year. Jacob Misiorowski, Brewers Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-109, DraftKings)

Where Misiorowski goes, strikeouts inevitably follow as he chases a NL Cy Young. Of course, when you can throw 105, it makes it rather difficult to get the bat on the ball. For the season, Misiorowski is 14-5 with a 1.73 ERA, a 0.755 WHIP, 35 walks and 222 strikeouts over 151 innings in 25 starts. He leads the majors in strikeouts entering this contest. Current Cubs hitters have a miserable .145 average with 31 strikeouts in 83 cumulative at-bats against Misiorowski. In addition, he has 16 strikeouts over 12 innings in two starts against the Cubs this season. Misiorowski has at least six strikeouts in all but one start this season. Meanwhile, he has 10 double-digit whiff outings. Take him to rack them up in this contest.

Cease is in the thick of the AL Cy Young chase as well thanks to his big strikeout numbers. He is 9-5 with a 2.33 ERA, a 1.051 WHIP, 65 walks and 217 strikeouts over 150.1 innings of work. In addition, he is second in the majors in whiffs and leads the American League. Cease has stifled the Guardians’ bats in his career outside of Patrick Bailey (four-of-seven) and Nathaniel Lowe (five-of-13, two HR) entering this one. Meanwhile, Jose Ramirez (six-of-30, no RBI) and Jo Adell (two of 11, six whiffs) struggle badly. Cleveland has the third-worst offense in the majors with 4.07 runs per game. Jackson Kent, Nationals Under 15.5 Outs Recorded (-135, FanDuel)

Kent was called up from the minors last month and has four three big league starts. It’s been a rough transition to the majors for him. He comes in 1-2 with a 5.59 ERA, a 1.71 WHIP, 15 walks and 17 strikeouts in those outings. In addition, he comes in off his first start where he went at least five innings. That was likely helped by the fact that it was his second straight outing against the Marlins, an offensively mediocre squad. He now faces a Braves squad that is eighth in the majors with 4.63 runs per contest on the year. Meanwhile, he’s had control issues in these outings. Look for him to end up with another short outing to wind up short of the number.
