Best MLB Pitcher Strikeout Bets Today: Player Props for September 16

Parker Messick, Guardians Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-139, FanDuel)

Messick is a solid front of the rotation guy for the Guardians this season. He enters this start 11-9 with a 2.51 ERA and a 1.033 WHIP over 172.1 innings of work. In addition, Messick ranks in the top 10 in the majors with in ERA and WHIP on the year. Among current White Sox hitters, he has recorded more strikeouts (20) than hits allowed (14) in 72 at-bats.

Meanwhile, if that wasn’t enough, the White Sox strike out at the fifth-highest rate in the majors with 9.20 whiffs per game. That number climbs to 9.57 strikeouts a game on the road. Messick has 21 strikeouts over 19.2 innings in three starts against the White Sox this season. This one may turn out in similar fashion.

Blake Snell, Dodgers Over 7.5 Strikeouts (+100, FanDuel)

Snell missed a huge chunk of the season with injury but pitched well when he’s out there. He enters this start 4-1 with a 1.91 ERA, a 1.088 WHIP, 16 walks and 51 strikeouts over 37.2 innings of work. Snell has at least seven punchouts in four of his seven starts this year, including a pair of 10-whiff outings.

Cincinnati crumbled after the All-Star break and are out of contention. The Reds strike out at the highest rate (9.56 per game) in baseball. That number climbs to 9.76 strikeouts a night at the Great American Ball Park.

Meanwhile, current Reds hitters are a combined 3-of-30 (.100) with nine strikeouts against Snell. In addition, we rolled with Tarik Skubal in this spot Monday and he cashed with nine K’s in seven frames. Snell goes over his strikeout prop here.

Best MLB Pitcher Prop Picks Today (09/16):

MacKenzie Gore, Rangers Over 14.5 Outs (-150, Fanatics)

Gore continues to be a reliable arm for the Rangers, taking the ball every fifth day. He’s made at least 27 starts each of the last four years. This marks his 32nd start of the year. Gore is 8-11 with a 4.62 ERA and a 1.355 WHIP over 161.2 innings. In addition, he has 172 strikeouts against 66 walks in those outings.

For this contest, Gore gets a crack at a Red Sox squad that ranks 19th in the majors with 4.35 runs per game. Meanwhile, Gore pitches much better at home (4-3, 3.36 ERA) than on the road (4-8, 5.79 ERA) this season. Throw in that Globe Life Field is a pitchers’ park and that means Gore should work deep into the contest.

Nick Martinez, Rays Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-146, DraftKings)

Martinez put together a terrific season for the Rays this season. He is 14-4 with a 2.92 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, 24 walks and 98 strikeouts over 166.1 innings in 28 starts this season. Martinez faces an Athletics lineup that struggles offensively. The Athletics are 20th in runs per game (4.37) this season but drop to 27th (4.14) on the road.

Meanwhile, Martinez limited current Athletics hitters to a .180 average over 50 at-bats against him. In addition, Martinez tossed at least six innings in 17 of his starts this season. That includes five where he worked at least seven frames. Look for him to keep the Athletics’ bats in check in this contest.
