Best MLB Pitcher Strikeout Bets Today: Player Props for August 17
Shota Imanaga, Cubs Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-118, Betr)
Imanaga has been a decent strikeout guy this season, recording 130 punchouts in 137.1 innings of work. However, 10 of his last 15 starts saw him fall below this mark as he entered this contest. The upside is that he faces a pretty free-swinging White Sox lineup in the Crosstown Classic. For the year, the Pale Hose are the sixth-most strikeout-prone team in the majors with 9.11 whiffs per game. In addition, that number climbs to 9.69 per contest as the visiting team. Temperatures in the low to mid-70s and light winds help Imanaga keep the ball in the yard. That helps him get enough strikeouts to cash this one.
Blake Snell, Dodgers Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-151, DraftKings)
It’s been a rough season for Snell, who has made just two starts totaling nine innings at the big league level this season. However, he racked up 15 strikeouts in those two outings. Snell gets a crack at the Rockies, who are 22nd in the majors with 8.59 strikeouts per game this season. That works in his favor, as he’s done a solid job handcuffing current Colorado batters. Current Rockies hitters have a .186 average in 59 at-bats with 28 strikeouts. That’s a hefty 47.5% strikeout rate in those at-bats. Even with Coors Field flattening out breaking stuff, he should pick up at least seven K’s to cash here.

Framber Valdez, Tigers Over 17.5 Outs (-130, Fanatics)
It hasn’t been a great first season for Valdez in the Motor City. After being picked up to be part of a 1-2 punch with the now-departed Tarik Skubal, he’s 7-8 with a 4.26 ERA and a 1.391 WHIP over 133 innings of work in the year. On the plus side, Valdez faces a Pirates team that is tapering off offensively since the All-Star break. Pittsburgh averaged a robust 5.32 runs per game before the break. However, that number drops to 4.03 runs per game since the break in 29 contests. Valdez is 3-1 in four starts against the Pirates in his career, spanning 23 innings. Eight of the 30 at-bats current Pirates hitters have against him have ended in strikeouts. He should go six frames against a listless Pittsburgh squad.
Cristopher Sanchez, Phillies Over 18.5 Outs (+106, DraftKings)
Sanchez and Zack Wheeler provide the Phillies with a 1-2 top-of-the-rotation punch that gives potential playoff foes a headache. He is 15-4 with a 2.54 ERA and 181 punchouts over 155.2 innings of work this season. Sanchez has tossed at least six innings in 17 of his 25 starts this year. In addition, he has worked into the seventh inning 10 times entering this contest. In his career against Miami, Sanchez has gone 3-0 with a 1.06 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP over 42.1 innings in seven appearances, five starts. Given his performance all season long, one should expect another stellar outing from the Phillies’ starter. Take the over in this one as a result.
