Welcome back to my top MLB home run props for Friday! Today's MLB slate has several power bats in good spots for homers, and I also have a total bases prop at Wrigley Field. Let’s get into my best MLB home run props and player props for Aug. 28!

MLB Home Run Props Today for Aug. 28

Drake Baldwin to hit a home run on DraftKings Sportsbook is my top MLB home run pick today. The Atlanta Braves host the Colorado Rockies, and Baldwin gets a matchup with right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano.

Sugano’s profile has changed dramatically from what it was earlier in his career. He used to lean on ground balls, but that has not been the case this season. He ranks in just the 27th percentile in ground-ball rate, the 11th percentile in hard-hit rate allowed, and the first percentile in barrel rate allowed this year.

The results have been ugly. Sugano has allowed 26 home runs this year, including 19 to left-handed hitters. Lefties are slugging .590 against him, and his 4.96 ERA is backed by an even uglier 7.05 expected ERA.

Baldwin is a left-handed hitter with a .191 ISO against right-handed pitching, but his expected ISO is north of .240. That tells me he has been a little unlucky from a power perspective. If Sugano gets knocked out early, the Rockies’ bullpen is also a unit I’m happy to attack.

MLB Home Run Predictions: Kody Clemens

Next, we’ll head to Minnesota, where the Twins host the Chicago White Sox. Kody Clemens to hit a home run on DraftKings is my second MLB home run pick today as he faces White Sox right-hander Luis Castillo.

Clemens is enjoying an excellent season and has become a legitimate power bat in this lineup. According to Baseball Savant, he ranks well above league average in barrel rate, hard-hit rate, and average exit velocity. He is consistently creating the type of contact that leads to home runs, and he draws a favorable matchup on Friday.

Castillo is not the same pitcher he was a few years ago. The 33-year-old owns just a 20% strikeout rate, has allowed plenty of barrels and hard contact, and does not do a good job of keeping the ball on the ground.

Left-handed hitters have done real damage against Castillo. He has surrendered 14 home runs to lefties, who are slugging north of .500 against him. That is a super-plus matchup for Clemens, who has the power profile to punish a mistake.

MLB Player Props Today: Ian Happ

For my best MLB player prop today, I’m taking Ian Happ over 1.5 total bases as the Chicago Cubs host the Cincinnati Reds.

Happ is a switch hitter who will get to bat left-handed against Reds right-hander Rhett Lowder. He owns a .232 ISO and a .360 weighted on-base percentage this season, giving him plenty of upside in a matchup with a young pitcher who has struggled.

Lowder has allowed a .232 expected ISO to left-handed hitters this season. Happ has tallied at least two hits in three of his last six games and has hit three home runs during that stretch. He is heating up at the right time, and this is a nice matchup to keep it rolling.
