MLB Home Run Props and Predictions Today: Top Player Props for Aug. 24

Happy Monday! There are some excellent MLB home run props to target across today’s slate, and I’ve found two powerful left-handed bats plus a strikeout prop worth betting. Let’s check out today's sportsbook promos and then get into my best MLB picks for Aug. 24!

MLB Home Run Props Today for Aug. 24

Pete Crow-Armstrong to hit a home run on DraftKings Sportsbook is my top MLB home run pick today. The Chicago Cubs visit the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field at 9:40 p.m. ET, and PCA gets one of the best matchups on the entire board against Merrill Kelly.

Father Time has absolutely caught up with Kelly. The veteran right-hander has been dreadful this season, and the underlying numbers are somehow even uglier. Kelly is allowing a massive .277 expected ISO to left-handed hitters, and Baseball Savant has him in the second percentile in barrel rate allowed, ninth percentile in hard-hit rate allowed, and first percentile in both expected ERA and expected batting average allowed.

Kelly has allowed 26 home runs this year, with 18 coming against left-handed bats. He is also allowing a .532 slugging percentage to lefties. That is exactly the type of split I want to attack with PCA, who is in the middle of an MVP-caliber season and has already shown that he can leave the yard against anybody.

Chase Field gives us an indoor, controlled hitting environment, so there is no weather issue to worry about.

MLB Home Run Predictions: Munetaka Murakami

Next, we’ll head to the South Side of Chicago, where the White Sox host the Texas Rangers at Rate Field. Kumar Rocker is projected to take the mound for Texas, and I like Munetaka Murakami to hit a home run.

Murakami might only be hitting just north of .220, but we only care about the power. He has 29 home runs this season, including 23 against right-handed pitching, and he owns a ridiculous .580 slugging percentage in that split.

The power profile is every bit as good as the production. Murakami ranks in the 95th percentile or better in expected slugging percentage, average exit velocity, barrel rate, and hard-hit rate. The advanced metrics are through the roof.

Rocker has been substantially worse against left-handed hitters. His actual ISO allowed and expected ISO allowed are both .203, so there is no bad-luck argument to make for him. He has simply been too hittable against lefties. Murakami, meanwhile, owns a .338 ISO against right-handed pitching this season.

This is a super-plus matchup for a player who can change the game with one swing. I’m willing to back the White Sox star to go deep at home.

MLB Player Props Today: Zack Wheeler Over 6.5 Strikeouts

For my MLB strikeout prop today, I’m taking Zack Wheeler over 6.5 strikeouts at -150 on DraftKings as the Philadelphia Phillies visit the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park at 9:40 p.m. ET.

Seattle has been better at putting the ball in play during August, but zoom out to the beginning of July, and this is a middle-of-the-pack strikeout matchup for Wheeler. Seven punchouts is a very achievable number for Wheeler, who has been phenomenal all season.

Wheeler owns a strikeout rate north of 30% and ranks in the 92nd percentile in strikeout rate, backed by elite whiff and chase marks. He is a legitimate stud, and it was a travesty that he was not a National League All-Star.

I also like the workload projection. His over 17.5 pitching-outs prop is heavily juiced at -170, which suggests oddsmakers expect Wheeler to work at least six innings, if not deeper. More innings mean more chances to get to seven strikeouts.
