MLB Best Bets Today: Top Pitcher Props for Sept. 22
It’s the final week of the MLB regular season. There’s a full 16-game slate on the diamond, starting at 1:10 pm ET with an AL East matchup. The Tampa Bay Rays are on the road as they open a four-game set and a day-night doubleheader with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
We’ve taken a look at the matchups on the docket and found the best options are as far as betting on MLB pitcher props on the board. Read on to get our breakdown of the best MLB bets today for Tuesday, Sept. 22, on the diamond as we try to put some cash in your pocket.
MLB Best Bets Today: Best Strikeout Props for Sept. 22
Zack Wheeler, Phillies Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-102, FanDuel)
Wheeler is solid as the front-of-the-rotation guy for the Phillies, along with Cristopher Sanchez. He seems fully recovered after surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome and is 13-5 with a 2.99 ERA, a 1.058 WHIP, and 177 strikeouts over 150.1 innings of work. In addition, Wheeler has at least six strikeouts in 17 of his 26 starts, along with three others with five.
Current Brewers hitters own a collective .190 average in 100 at-bats against him. Meanwhile, Wheeler holds a 31% strikeout rate (31 punchouts) in those at-bats. In his career, he is 5-2 with a 2.41 ERA and 78 punchouts over 71 innings in 11 starts against Milwaukee. He picks up his share of whiffs again here.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dodgers Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-113, DraftKings)
Yamamoto proved to be a reliable ace for the Dodgers in a season when several of his fellow starters were on the IL. He enters this game 14-8 with a 2.51 ERA, a 0.866 WHIP, 41 walks, and 178 strikeouts over 179 innings of work this year. Yamamoto has 15 starts in which he struck out at least seven hitters. In addition, he has five additional starts with six strikeouts.
Yamamoto pitches well against the Padres in his career. He is 2-1 with a 1.35 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts over 20 innings in three starts against them this season. Current San Diego hitters are 26-for-112 (.232) against Yamamoto in his career. In addition, he has 32 strikeouts (28.6%) in those at-bats. Take the over on his strikeout prop here.

MacKenzie Gore, Rangers Under 13.5 Outs (-125, Hard Rock)
Gore continues to be a reliable arm for the Rangers, taking the ball every fifth day. He’s made at least 27 starts each of the last four years. This marks his 33rd start of the year. Gore is 8-11 with a 4.67 ERA and a 1.352 WHIP over 165.2 innings. In addition, he has 172 strikeouts against 69 walks in those outings.
For this contest, Gore gets a crack at a Mets squad that ranks 22nd in the majors with 4.28 runs per game. Meanwhile, Gore pitches much better at home (4-3, 3.53 ERA) than on the road (4-8, 5.79 ERA) this season. Even with that said, Gore has thrown five innings just once in his last five starts. He likely ends up falling short of the prop in this contest.
Payton Tolle, Red Sox Over 15.5 Outs Recorded (+125, Fanatics)
Tolle has become a solid starter for the Red Sox this season and is a key cog in Boston's postseason push. He is 9-6 with a 3.02 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, 38 walks and 166 strikeouts over 143 innings of work in 25 starts. Tolle worked at least six innings in 14 of his 25 starts this year. In addition, he has two other starts in which he threw 5.2 innings.
Tolle hasn’t faced the Guardians in his career, which works in his favor here. He turned in two strong starts in September, working 12 innings and allowing one run while striking out 19 hitters. Look for Tolle to turn in another good outing here.
MLB Playoff Race Update
The playoff races are beginning to crystallize. In the National League, the Cubs and Padres own magic numbers of one to clinch a wild card spot. Meanwhile, the Phillies are one game behind those two and four games ahead of Arizona with six to go.
In the American League, the White Sox own a three-game edge over Houston and Toronto for the final wild card spot. There are six games remaining in the regular season.
