The Los Angeles Dodgers won the first game of this NL West series and are looking for their third straight win as they host the San Francisco Giants. Let’s break down this Giants vs. Dodgers prediction, including the starting pitching matchup, key injuries, the latest odds, and some great value prop bets.

The Giants (64-90) had won two in a row before dropping the opener of this division series. They have been officially eliminated from the playoffs and have the second-fewest wins in the NL.

The Dodgers (94-60) have won two in a row and four of their last five games. They have already qualified for the playoffs and are two games back of the Milwaukee Brewers for the most wins in the Majors.

San Fran Lineup Quiets Down in Loss

After totaling 16 runs in two wins, the Giants’ lineup quieted down in the series opener in an 8-2 loss. Jung Hoo Lee hit a solo home run in the loss, and Jonah Cox drove in a run.

While San Francisco has balance, it is not quite the good kind, ranking 23rd in both runs scored and team ERA.

Rafael Devers (.258, 37 home runs, 98 RBIs) is the only player with over 21 home runs and 57 RBIs, and he was recently shelved for the season due to an abdominal injury. Willy Adames (.230, 21 home runs, 51 RBIs) and Casey Schmitt (.271, 21 home runs, 55 RBIs) are tied for second on the team in home runs, and both are out with injuries.

Long Ball Galore in Dodgers’ Win

In the 8-2 win in the first game of this series, the Dodgers had five home runs, four in the eighth inning, and Mookie Betts went yard twice.

This season, L.A. ranks fourth in runs and sixth in team ERA.

The Dodgers are also missing a couple of big bats, as Shohei Ohtani (.277, 30 home runs, 80 RBIs) and Andy Pages (.272, 21 home runs, 80 RBIs) are both out with injuries.

Betts (.254, 22 home runs, 65 RBIs) is batting over .350 this month, and he has three hits in each of the last two games. Kyle Tucker (.234, 17 home runs, 70 RBIs) has gone deep in each of the last two games, and in the last five games he has three home runs and five RBIs.

Los Angeles Starting Pitcher

Tarik Skubal (10-7, 2.70 ERA, 0.95 WHIP) takes the hill for the Boys in Blue, and they have won his last five starts and six of his seven starts since coming in a trade with the Detroit Tigers. He has allowed no more than two runs in his last four starts, and his last was a gem: seven scoreless innings and only three hits in a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. This season, Skubal has logged 142 2/3 innings, struck out 173, and walked only 25.

Even with Ohtani and Pages out, the Dodgers still have big bats in the lineup, while the Giants don't with their key players out. It does not matter who starts for the Giants, as Skubal will have the better outing. He and the balanced and loaded L.A. lineup will both get it done, and the Dodgers will take the second game of this series. They will also win by at least two runs, so take the run line to get better odds.
