Nationals Last Game
Washington fell for just the second time in their last seven games as they took a beating in the finale of their set with the Braves Wednesday. The Nationals entered Friday night fourth in the NL East with a 67-75 mark. That left them 17.5 games behind the Braves for the top spot. They were 7.5 games behind the Diamondbacks for the final NL wild card spot. Against Atlanta Wednesday, Washington was limited to just two hits in the contest and never had a runner get past first base. Brad Lord threw 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits with one walk and six strikeouts, but didn’t factor in the decision. Meanwhile, Riley Cornelio (2-2) took the loss as he threw 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Nationals Probable Starter
Cade Cavalli makes his 30th start of the season for the Nationals in the middle game of this series. He is 12-5 with a 3.12 ERA, a 1.199 WHIP, 46 walks and 177 strikeouts over 152.2 innings of work on the year. Cavalli didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came against the Marlins at home last Saturday. He threw four scoreless innings, allowing no hits with three walks and eight strikeouts, in a game the Nationals eventually won 5-4 in 10 innings.
In his last three starts, Cavalli is 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA, a 0.813 WHIP, five walks and 26 strikeouts over 16 innings of work. Cavalli, in his 41st career major league start, pitches against the Dodgers for the first time in this contest. As a result, this marks his first career outing at Dodger Stadium as well.

Dodgers Last Game
Los Angeles won for just the third time in nine games as they downed the Cardinals in walk-off fashion Thursday night in the finale of that set. The Dodgers entered Friday’s opener 83-57 and owned a 9.5-game advantage over the Padres for the top spot in the NL West race. On Thursday night against St. Louis, Los Angeles finished with six hits in the contest. Tommy Edman (two runs) had four hits while Teoscar Hernandez (two RBI) had the other two. Hernandez’s two-run double in the ninth gave the Dodgers the win. Tarik Skubal threw 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on 10 hits with one walk and six strikeouts, but didn’t factor in the decision. Brock Stewart (1-2) got the final two outs of the ninth to earn the win in relief.
Dodgers Probable Starter
Tyler Glasnow takes the mound for his 10th start of what has been an injury prone season for the Dodgers in this contest. He is 4-0 with a 2.79 ERA, a 0.813 WHIP, 14 walks and 62 strikeouts over 51.2 innings of work on the year. Glasnow earned the win in his last start, which came against the Tigers on the road Sunday afternoon. He threw seven innings, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts in a game the Dodgers won by a 6-1 score.
In his last three starts, Glasnow is 1-0 with a 3.46 ERA, a 0.769 WHIP, one walk and 15 strikeouts over 13 innings of work. Nationals +1.5 (-115, Fanatics)
This one is going to be a test for the Dodgers, who sputtered offensively over the last couple months. We’ve seen Los Angeles struggle to have as much success at the plate at home as they do on the road this season. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are just 22nd in OPS and 23rd in runs per game since the beginning of July. They have to deal with the fact that they have little familiarity with Cavalli as well. In addition, Cavalli is on a roll with punchouts of late. Glasnow made two starts since spending more than three months on the shelf. The Dodgers are the better team but the Nationals have a solid enough lineup to keep it close. Take Washington and the run line here.
Under 8 (-118, BetMGM)
We’ve got a matchup of a pair of teams that send pitchers that are good at run prevention on the year. Cavalli has seen the over post a 17-11-1 mark in his 29 starts this season. However, the under has hit in four of his last six starts entering this game. Glasnow pitched to the under in six of his nine starts on the year entering this contest. Meanwhile, that includes five of his last six outings. Throw in that the Dodgers produce more than a run less at home (4.39 runs per game) than on the road (5.41) and the under is the call for this contest.
