On Tuesday, Toronto had 10 hits with Myles Straw (run, RBI), Brett Bateman (two RBI) and Alejandro Kirk each recording two. Dylan Cease threw five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts, but didn’t factor in the decision. Chase Lee (1-0) earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed one hit with two walks and no strikeouts. Spencer Miles worked a scoreless ninth, allowing one hit with no walks or strikeouts, for his first save.

Jose Soriano gets the ball for the Blue Jays as he makes his 24th start of the year overall and second with Toronto. Boston dropped the first two games of this series but the Red Sox still are the better team. The Red Sox offense is delivering since the All-Star break. Meanwhile, Soriano has control issues, leading the AL in walks on the year. That doesn’t bode well, giving Boston extra baserunners. Suarez has sputtered lately in his last few starts. With that said, he has stifled the Blue Jays in his limited work against them. That includes those eight shutout innings back in April at Rogers Centre. Give Boston the upper hand in this contest as they come away with a needed win.

While runs have been rather hard to come by in the first two games of this series, that changes here. We saw three runs Monday night but eight in Tuesday’s contest. Suarez is still finding his footing after missing time last month. Meanwhile, Soriano is due for some negative regression to the mean given that his FIP ERA is 3.81, more than half a run over his actual number. Boston has put up a ton of runs since the All-Star break and the Blue Jays have been slightly to the over this season.
