Pete Alonso Clubs 300th Career Home Run at Citi Field

Pete Alonso hit home run No. 300 at Citi Field on Tuesday night, then received the kind of curtain call that made the moment feel equal parts historic and awkward for the New York Mets.

The Baltimore Orioles first baseman tied the game in the ninth inning against his former club, but the Citi Field crowd still erupted for the franchise’s all-time home-run leader. Alonso spent seven seasons in Queens before signing with Baltimore in the offseason, and apparently some things do not disappear just because the uniform changes.

Pete Alonso Makes History Against Mets

Alonso’s 300th career homer was a game-tying solo shot off Kodai Senga in the ninth. He finished the night with the milestone, a curtain call from Mets fans and a 7-5 Orioles win in 11 innings.

“There’s a lot of history here with me,” Alonso said after the game. “It doesn’t matter where and when; I just want to help the team win. I’m just really, really happy for us to come back the way we did.”

That is about as clean a way as possible to handle it. Alonso got his milestone in the building where he became a star, and he did it while helping Baltimore pull out an extra-inning win.

Sean Manaea Calls Reaction “Crazy”

Mets starter Sean Manaea was not quite as sentimental about the scene.

“As the 2026 Mets, I know we have definitely underperformed...to have that kind of reaction to an opposing player, could be anybody, is crazy to me,” Manaea said.

Alonso remains beloved in Queens, but he is now an Orioles player who hit a game-tying homer against a Mets team already eliminated from postseason contention. The crowd’s reaction speaks to Alonso’s legacy, and Manaea’s reaction speaks to a clubhouse still trying to finish a disappointing season with some pride.

Baltimore, meanwhile, remained three games behind Cleveland for the final American League playoff spot after the win.
