Jordan Walker Wins 2026 MLB Home Run Derby With Dramatic Comeback
The 2026 Home Run Derby had a slightly revamped format, which ultimately ended up bringing fans one of the most exciting events in recent history.
And it was St. Louis Cardinals slugger Jordan Walker who stunned the Philadelphia crowd on Monday night, rallying to defeat hometown favorite Kyle Schwarber and claim the Home Run Derby title as an underdog.
It came down to the wire, as Walker hit home runs on his final six swings to come back in dramatic fashion and become the first player in Cardinals history to win the event.
And the fact that he did it at Citizens Bank Park in front of a crowd that was obviously filled with Philadelphia fans made it even more impressive.
Schwarber and his teammate, Bryce Harper, who was also in the event, had the hometown crowd behind them all night. Schwarber was phenomenal, hitting 11 home runs in the final round and looking like he was on his way to winning the title in front of those fans.
But Walker took advantage of every swing in this new format, which is based more on pitch count than time, and completed one of the greatest Home Run Derby comebacks we’ve seen in recent history.
For Walker, this just continues what has already been a breakout season.
He showcased his power on one of baseball’s biggest stages, stayed composed with the crowd firmly against him and delivered when he had almost no room for error.
The new swing-based format helped create that dramatic finish and, based on how entertaining Monday night was, looks like a major success for MLB.
But the biggest winner was Walker.
Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals went into Philadelphia, spoiled the hometown celebration and left as the 2026 Home Run Derby champion.
