Cubs Make Franchise History With 30 Unanswered Runs

The MLB regular season continues to tick on, and with roughly a month of regular-season baseball left, every game matters.

And perhaps the hottest team in the sport at this stage is the Chicago Cubs, who are absolutely on fire and continue making headlines. Over the Cubs' last three games, they scored 30 consecutive unanswered runs, which set a new franchise record and surpassed the previous mark of 29.

And while the Arizona Diamondbacks did end up breaking that streak and scoring on Tuesday night, what the Cubs did over the span of those three games was unprecedented for the franchise.

Cubs' Offense Goes on Historic Run

It all started Sunday against the Seattle Mariners.

The Cubs were down 2-0 early before completely flipping the game and going on an incredible heater, scoring 19 unanswered runs to win 19-2. From there, Chicago beat the Diamondbacks 7-0 on Monday, which meant the Cubs entered Tuesday having scored 26 consecutive runs without allowing one. Chicago then jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Arizona on Tuesday, pushing the streak to 30 unanswered runs and setting the new franchise record.

Cubs Look Dangerous as Playoffs Approach

Interestingly enough, Arizona then rallied and beat the Cubs 5-4, rattling off five unanswered runs of its own. That's poetic, but it's also how a lot of streaks end.

Either way, scoring 30 runs over any three-game stretch is impressive. Scoring 30 consecutive runs without allowing the other team to answer once is on another level. The Cubs have been one of the best teams in baseball all season, but this recent run is another reminder of just how dangerous they can be when everything starts clicking at once.

The best teams aren't always the ones with the best record entering October. Sometimes, it's simply about who's playing the best baseball at the right time. And right now, the Cubs look like a team that could get hot in the postseason and become one of the toughest outs in the entire MLB.
