Brewers Survive Ninth-Inning Scare to Beat Rays in World Series Game 1

The Milwaukee Brewers are officially three wins away from their first World Series championship in franchise history.
It's been a great season so far, and an impressive postseason run. And Milwaukee escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night.
Though it was a low-scoring game, the Brewers looked in control for most of the night. But when Tampa Bay nearly completed the comeback in the ninth inning, things got interesting for fans of the MLB.
Trevor Megill Escapes Ninth-Inning Jam
Milwaukee entered the ninth inning with a 3-1 lead, but the Rays loaded the bases with one out after Jonathan Aranda and Chandler Simpson singled and Junior Caminero drew a walk.
And that's when things got interesting.
Liam Hicks grounded into what initially appeared to be a game-ending double play, sending the Brewers into celebration mode. But after further review, officials determined that shortstop Cooper Pratt's foot was off second base when he received the throw, and the call was overturned.
So then it was 3-2, with a run scoring on the play, and the Rays had runners on second and third with an opportunity to take the lead. But Megill responded by striking out Jonny DeLuca, officially ending the game in dramatic fashion.
Brewers Take Early World Series Advantage
The Brewers did most of their offensive work in the first inning, starting off hot and scoring two runs in that opening frame. Christian Yelich delivered an RBI triple before William Contreras drove him home, giving Milwaukee an early 2-0 advantage. Jackson Chourio added an RBI single in the seventh inning, which ultimately proved to be the difference.
Starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski was impressive, allowing just one run on four hits over five innings. So this was a game that established itself early on and then got interesting late.
Milwaukee hadn't hosted a World Series game since 1982, making Friday's victory even more significant for the franchise. Game 2 is now set for Saturday night, with an opportunity for the Brewers to take a 2-0 lead or Tampa Bay to tie things up before heading back home.
