MLB Today’s Best Bets for April 24: Home Run Picks & Top Player Props

We're closing out the working week on Friday, and these are my best MLB bets today for April 24. We've got a pair of strikeout unders targeting pitchers who simply aren't missing bats right now, plus home run picks today on an uber-talented Dodger due for a breakout. Let's get into it.

Best MLB Bets Today: Player Props for April 24

Brandon Woodruff under 6.5 strikeouts is one of my favorite MLB best bets today at -125 on BetMGM Sportsbook. I think this number is very generous for where Woodruff is right now as a pitcher.

Father Time has caught up to him after multiple lengthy injury absences, and the strikeout stuff just isn't there anymore. Woodruff carries a below-average 21% strikeout rate in 2026, and his whiff rate sits at just the 33rd percentile.

Per Baseball Savant, his highest putaway percentage on any single pitch is just 24% this year. To his credit, he's reinvented himself into an effective arm with a 3.42 ERA and a 2.78 expected ERA, but he's doing it without punchouts.

The Pittsburgh Pirates' lineup cooperates here, too. Yes, O'Neil Cruz is striking out at over 30% the last two seasons at the top of the order — but after him, it tightens up considerably. Brandon Lowe sits at just 14% against right-handed pitchers so far in 2026, per AddMoreFunds. Nick Gonzalez and Spencer Horwitz are both punching out at a 15% clip or less against righties this season. Aging pitcher, no putaway stuff, and some genuinely stingy bats behind Cruz. This is a clean under.

MLB Player Props Today: Andrew Abbott Under 4.5 Strikeouts

Andrew Abbott under 4.5 strikeouts is next on my best MLB player props today card at -107 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Abbott has hit the regression wall hard in 2026, and the profile is pretty rough right now.

He's posting a 5.84 ERA with a 4.91 expected ERA, and the swing-and-miss just isn't there. Per Baseball Savant, he ranks in the 8th percentile in strikeout rate, 18th percentile in chase percentage, and 20th percentile in whiff percentage this season.

Abbott had three pitches with a putaway percentage above 16% last year, but in 2026, he's down to just one. The Detroit Tigers have also cleaned up their approach against left-handed pitching, striking out at just a 20% clip against southpaws this season, per FanGraphs.

There's also a threat of bad weather in this one, which could disrupt Abbott's rhythm and cut his outing short. You don't always need the weather angle with a number this well-supported, but it's a nice bonus when backing an under. Abbott has been bad this season, and the Tigers have been disciplined. At -107, this is one of the better-priced MLB player props today.

Home Run Picks Today: Kyle Tucker

For my MLB home run bets today, I'm going with Kyle Tucker at +540 on FanDuel Sportsbook against Cubs starter Jameson Taillon. Tucker has been miserable this season overall, but he's quietly hit two home runs in the last 10 days.

Taillon has already surrendered four home runs to left-handed hitters in 2026. Per Baseball Savant, he ranks in just the 17th percentile in barrel rate, 20th percentile in ground-ball rate, and he's allowing a .317 ISO to left-handed batters this season.

The other Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed bats are priced appropriately given Taillon's reputation, which is exactly why Tucker at +540 stands out. This is an elite hitter in a great matchup at a price that reflects his slump more than his ability. He's going to catch fire eventually. I'll take a shot on Friday.
