It’s a jam-packed 16-game slate on the diamond for Easter Sunday, thanks to the Cubs and Guardians rainout Saturday. That necessitated a doubleheader at Progressive Field Sunday. That gives even more opportunities to find the best MLB bets today, including the top home run props. After looking over the slate, we’ve identified our favorite plays to bolster your bankroll. Without further ado, let’s get to the best options on the board. Odds are courtesy of Fanatics and are current as of 1:30 am ET April 5.

Best MLB Bets Today: Player Props for April 5

Lance McCullers Jr., Astros Under 15.5 Outs (-130, Fanatics): Sure, it’s easy to look at McCullers Jr.’s first start of the year and take the over here. After all, he threw seven innings of one-run ball, striking out nine in a 4-1 win over Boston. Here’s the thing: that outing came at Daikin Park. He has never pitched at Sutter Health Park, which favored hitters last season. Even in four starts at the Oakland Coliseum, which was a pitcher friendly venue, McCullers threw just 21.1 innings. Only one of those starts saw him go deeper than five innings.

McCullers Jr. has made just 25 appearances, 22 starts, totaling 110 innings at the major league level since the end of the 2021 season. Add it all up and it’s hard to see him going deeper than five frames in this contest.

Moises Ballesteros, Cubs Over 0.5 Total Bases (-150, Fanatics): Ballesteros is off to a slow start, going three for 19 with seven punchouts on the young season. With that said, he’s got a 33.3% hard hit rate on that small sample size. Facing Slade Cecconi, who gave up hard hit contact on 49.1% of his at-bats last season, should be a prime opportunity for Ballesteros. Cecconi can’t blame it on a small sample size as he threw 132 innings last year. He gave up six runs in 4.1 innings in his first start this season and Ballesteros should get at least one knock here.

Logan Webb, Giants Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-150, Fanatics): Webb has fanned 12 hitters in 11 innings of work in his first two starts this year. He gets a favorable matchup here against the Mets, who have some strikeout prone hitters in the lineup. Sure, New York scored 19 runs in the first two games of this set but the numbers are concerning.

Bo Bichette (.220) has 12 strikeouts in 41 at-bats so far this year. Brett Baty (.242), Marcus Semien (.258) and rookie Carson Benge (.111) all have 10 whiffs. Francisco Lindor has seven punchouts and is hitting .156 on the year. In his career, Webb has 39 whiffs in 42 career innings against the Mets. Patrick Bailey is an elite pitch framer and the Mets will help. Webb gets six or seven strikeouts in this one.

Home Run Picks Today:

Kyle Schwarber, Phillies (+170, Fanatics): Stop if you’ve heard the theory of a hitter at Coors Field going deep before. Schwarber has three bombs on the year and we know how favorable the conditions are in Denver for sluggers, be they on the visiting team or the hosts. Tomoyuki Sugano gets the ball for the Rockies here and he is prone to giving up moonshots. He gave up 33 homers last season in 157 innings for Baltimore in his first major league season. Suffice it to say that Coors Field is much more conducive to opposing hitters than Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Look for a Schwarbomb early.

Shea Langeliers, Athletics (+320, Fanatics): Langeliers hammered 29 home runs in 2023 and followed that with 31 long balls last season. He’s been off to a torrid start this season, hammering five homers in the Athletics’ first eight games. Five of his nine hits have left the yard this year. Langeliers has cranked eight homers in 131 career at-bats against the Astros. He has had success at Sutter Health Park, clubbing a dozen homers over 258 at-bats at the venue. Langeliers has favorable weather conditions with temperatures in the mid-80s with very little wind to speak of here. His exit velocity (94.4 mph) and hard hit rate (44.4%) are stellar. If he elevates one as opposing to hitting a line drive, he can find the seats again.
