Shota Imanaga, Cubs Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-120, Fanatics)
Imanaga has been a decent strikeout guy this season, recording 140 punchouts in 143.1 innings of work. He comes off recording 10 strikeouts over six innings in his last start, which came against the White Sox at home. The plus side here is that he faces a pretty free-swinging Mariners lineup in the Emerald City. For the year, the Mariners are the ninth-most strikeout prone team in the majors with 8.60 whiffs per game. In addition, that number remains relatively steady at 8.56 per contest as the visiting team. Temperatures in the mid to high-70s and light winds help Imanaga keep the ball in the yard. That helps him get enough strikeouts to cash this one.
Nolan McLean, Mets Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+120, FanDuel)
It’s been a dismal year for Mets fans but McLean is a bright spot on a team full of underachieving duds. He is 9-8 with a 3.34 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, 54 walks and 162 strikeouts over 142.2 innings of work in 25 starts on the year. Meanwhile, he’s better on the road, posting a 6-2 mark with a 2.70 ERA in 12 starts. He gets a crack at a White Sox squad that is the sixth-worst team in the majors in terms of strikeout rate with 9.09 punchouts per game. In addition, McLean has 76 punchouts over 70 innings on the road this year. Look for him to go over the number in this contest.
Best MLB Pitcher Prop Picks Today (08/23):
Cristopher Sanchez, Phillies Over 18.5 Outs (+140, Fanatics)
Sanchez and Zack Wheeler provide the Phillies with a 1-2 top of the rotation punch that gives potential playoff foes agita. He is 16-4 with a 2.51 ERA and 187 punchouts over 161.2 innings of work on the year. Sanchez has tossed at least six innings in 18 of his 26 starts on the year. In addition, he has worked into the seventh inning 10 times entering this contest. In his career against St. Louis, Sanchez has gone 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA and a 1.061 WHIP over 27.1 innings in five appearances, four starts. Given his performance all season long, one should expect another stellar outing from the Phillies’ starter. Take the over in this one as a result.
Tyler Mahle, Braves Over 15.5 Outs (+120, Fanatics)
It’s been a rough year for Mahle, who started the season with the Giants before being dealt to Atlanta at the trade deadline. He is 4-10 with a 4.53 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and 108 strikeouts over 113.1 innings of work on the year. However, since coming to Atlanta, he is 1-1 with a 1.48 ERA, three walks and 19 strikeouts over 18.2 innings of work in three starts. Mahle went at least six innings in five of their last seven starts entering this contest. Meanwhile, one of the other two starts saw him go 5.2 frames. With the first two games of the series with Milwaukee seeing three and six combined runs on the board, the pitchers go deep here. Take the over on outs.
