Best MLB Bets Today: Player Props for August 23

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Blue Jays Over 1.5 Total Bases (+126, DraftKings)

Talk about teams that had a massive letdown and Toronto has to be near the top of the list. After taking the Dodgers to Game 7 of the World Series last season and making a splash in free agency, they entered Sunday 64-67 and a game out of the final AL wild card spot. Guerrero Jr.’s power stroke vanished this season, as he is hitting .264 with 19 doubles, seven homers and 46 RBI on the year. On the plus side, he hits Carlos Rodon well in his career. Guerrero is a scorching 12-of-19 (.632) against the Yankees hurler in his career. In addition, he has three doubles, two homers and seven RBI against him. With the friendly dimensions in the Bronx, he gets the job done.

Mike Trout, Angels Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115, FanDuel)

Trout, like the rest of the Angels, are in the midst of another lost campaign. He enters Sunday hitting .236 with 17 doubles, 20 homers and 45 RBI on the season. However, he was two-for-four with a run and a RBI in the Angels’ 3-0 victory Saturday. Trout is solid against Rangers’ righthander Cal Quantrill in his career. He is five-of-12 (.417) in his career against Quantrill entering this game. In addition, he has a pair of RBI to his credit. Look for Trout’s bat to have a solid outing here on getaway day for the Halos.

Javier Baez, Tigers Over 1.5 Total Bases (+135, DraftKings)

The Tigers struggled most of the year but entered Sunday 2.5 games behind the Rangers for the final AL wild card. It’s been a lost season for Baez, who entered Sunday having played in just 40 games on the year. He has a .255 average with eight doubles, two homers and 14 RBI in 141 at-bats. Fortunately, the Tigers face a Royals squad that struggles in all facets this season. While Daniel Lynch IV is a bright spot for Kansas City, posting a 2.83 ERA in 54 innings of work this season, Baez hits him well. For his career, Baez is six-for-16 (.375) against Lynch IV. In addition, he has a double, a homer and RBI in those at-bats. He picks up a couple knocks here.

Home Run Picks Today (08/23):

Mickey Moniak, Rockies (+440, FanDuel)

The Rockies haven’t been great this season but Moniak has found his power stroke. After clubbing 24 homers in 135 games last season for Colorado, he’s turned the power up in 2026. Moniak enters Sunday hitting .264 but has 21 homers in 311 at-bats on the year. Meanwhile, he went deep in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to the Guardians. Game-time temperatures are in the low-to-mid 90s, which is about 20 degrees hotter than Saturday’s forecast. Moniak has crushed 17 homers in 173 at-bats at Coors Field this season. If he gets one in the air, it’s got a chance to go.

Fernando Tatis Jr., Padres (+312, DraftKings)

Tatis Jr. started the season painfully slow but located his power stroke here in August. He had just one homer at the end of May, five at the end of June and eight at the end of July. However, in August, Tatis Jr. has a .273 average with five doubles, seven homers and 13 RBI over 66 at-bats. That’s more of the type of pop we’re used to seeing from his bat. Facing the Twins’ Bailey Ober, Tatis Jr. looks to keep his hot bat going. He is two for three in his career against Ober in his career. In addition, one of those two hits left the yard. Back him to stay hot.
