College Basketball Best Bets: under the total?

Over the last 10 seasons, the under on a 39-21 (65%) run for MVC tourney totals of 131.5 or higher. The market is well aware of that trend, as this total opened an entire point lower. The home of the St. Louis Blues isn't constructed for hoops. Combine significant shooting backdrops with no days off between games, and this strand of unders isn't surprising.

Will it continue? Both teams showcase a bottom-115 adjusted tempo across D-I. On paper, this contest is set up to feature a slower pace. They also have top-five defenses across the conference, with Evansville only trailing top-seed Drake.

While the total went over in their second meeting of 2024-25, Evansville shot well above their average efficiency (30.1%) from behind the arc. Given the abovementioned sight lines, I don't expect that to carry over into this clash on Thursday evening.

To boot, the Racers boast the league's third-highest offensive rebounding rate in MVC play. Their inaccuracy from long-range should translate into some second-chance shots, limiting rare transition opportunities for their opponent while draining more of the clock.

As long as JaCobi Wood, Murray State's leading scorer (13.5 ppg), doesn't catch fire from distance, the under is an intriguing angle.
