The Singapore Grand Prix is one of the toughest races on the calendar. Between the sweltering heat, high humidity, and the anti-clockwise track, the circuit poses quite a challenge to drivers.

Max Verstappen is the favorite in the latest F1 odds to win his sixth-straight race this season and potentially secure his second championship.

Prepare To See A Safety Car

The brutal conditions at the Singapore Grand Prix can wreak havoc on the drivers and their cars. Sometimes a safety car serves as a nice respite for drivers still in the race, with Max Verstappen commenting that it gets so hot, sometimes you pray for one.

“There is a time where you are actually praying for the Safety Car, a bit of a cooldown, because it’s really demanding; the last 20 laps or so is mentally really tough. And as I say it just keeps getting worse and worse. After Lap 15 it’s already pretty warm – and it just gets worse from there!”

Drivers do their best to prepare for the conditions on the track. Ricciardo tried to get ready last season by sitting in the sauna daily, but it’s hard to truly prep your body for these conditions.

The current odds for a safety car to be deployed during the race sit at -700 at DraftKings Sportsbook, which shows you just how tough this tack is.

Despite the difficult conditions, Ferrari is determined to show fans that it has learned from its mistakes this year. The Scuderia has performed well during street circuits this year and could give Verstappen a run for his money here.

Ferrari’s best shot at making Verstappen win one more race before securing the title is by securing pole position. Commenting on the importance of qualifying, Sainz said,

“I think we can bring the fight, especially in qualifying, and it’s a track where in the race if you’re ahead then you can stand a bigger chance of winning the race than what we did in Monza or Spa when we were starting ahead of them.

With Ferrari’s solid qualifying record this season and its street circuit success, Leclerc to win qualifying at +165 on DraftKings is worth a second look.

Verstappen Can Secure Second Championship in Singapore

It looked like we would get a true battle between Ferrari and Red Bull at the beginning of the season. That fight slowly shifted to domination by Red Bull as the season neared its midway point.

Now, Verstappen is potentially one win away from securing his second championship with five more races left in the season after Singapore. If he wins, Perez finishes fourth or lower, and Charles eighth or lower, the championship is his.

It’s unlikely all of those things line up for Max this week, but a win in Singapore would help him close out the season in Japan.

While Verstappen is a heavy favorite to win the race, you can still get good value on him to secure the fastest lap on Sunday. I like Max Verstappen at +120 to have the fastest race lap at BetMGM Sportsbook.

He has secured the fastest lap five times this season, winning four of those five races. Max has been vocal about his concern over the number of street circuits added to the calendar. He doesn’t feel F1 cars are suited for street races (hence the high likeliness of a safety car).

He also said he would prefer to win it in Japan.

But that doesn’t mean he is just letting this one slide by. He still wants to win it. If Charles can put the pressure on Max by securing pole position, it will force Verstappen to push the pace on Sunday and go for the fastest lap.
