Matthew Stafford Deal: Implications For L.A. Rams Betting Odds
Matthew Stafford isn't going anywhere, after all. The Rams opted to guarantee a big chunk of his money and keep their Super Bowl-winning QB in the fold rather than trade him. What does the Matthew Stafford deal mean for bettors monitoring Rams odds, and what might happen in the draft?

The Rams entered the 2025 offseason with speculation that they might reset at QB. Stafford enters his age-37 season after another solid campaign. He led the team to a division title, a playoff win, and a near-upset of the favored Eagles, who eventually won the Super Bowl.
However, some wondered if the team would build for the future around a young defense and budding superstar WR in Puka Nacua. That buzz only intensified when the team announced it was letting Stafford's agency explore options for a trade.
Despite the uncertainty, the market had faith in the Rams. As far as Super Bowl odds in the division, they lag behind only the 49ers.
It appears that faith was well-founded. Aside from LT Alaric Jackson and WR Cooper Kupp, all of last year's significant contributors will return. (Editor's note: the Rams are reportedly close to bringing Jackson back on a long-term deal.)
Thanks to owning the youngest and cheapest defense in the NFL, the Rams also retain significant cap space to make offseason additions. Per Over The Cap, they'll have at least $41 million with which to work.
The most significant needs appear at WR, CB, and LB. Nacua is a stud but will need some support, especially with Demarcus Robinson also a free agent. The cornerback position features an unexciting pair of starters, and the team was torched fairly often by opposing passing games (25th in pass defense DVOA). A pair of starting linebackers are also departing.
NFL Draft Impact Of Stafford Deal
The Matthew Stafford deal also has implications for the NFL draft and the broader QB market. QB-thirsty teams now have one fewer option available, and it was arguably the most enticing one.
Sure, Sam Darnold outplayed Stafford for most of the season. But he doesn't have Stafford's track record, and Stafford has far more allure for a team looking to win playoff games.
The Giants were reportedly the team most interested in bringing Stafford aboard. Other reports have painted them as less than thrilled with the quality of the top QB prospects. With Brian Daboll likely in win-or-pack-up mode, might they now be the favorite to sign Darnold? Rumors are also connecting the Giants with Aaron Rodgers.
Combine the Matthew Stafford deal with the news of a possible medical red flag on Penn State EDGE Abdul Carter, and bettors may now look at a situation where it's increasingly likely someone trades up to gamble on a QB at No. 1 overall.
