As the Masters betting handle surges across a multitude of legal sportsbooks before teeing off on Thursday, let’s dig into the most notable figures across the Masters odds board. This information stems from BetMGM Sportsbook (as of Monday) which — to no one’s surprise — is seeing plenty of wagers on Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, and other big-name golfers.

Masters Betting: Outright Odds
Among the favorites, Scheffler, who won the Green Jacket last year, has seen his opening odds shrink from +1200 to +700. He tallied the highest percentage of money and tickets to boot. Overall, he represented BetMGM’s second-biggest liability to win the 2023 Masters, only trailing Jordan Spieth (+1800).
Scheffler isn’t the only participant with that price tag over at BetMGM. Rory McIlroy (+700), a four-time major champion, is tied with the defending champ for the shortest outright odds. That number dipped from +1000 when the market initially opened in April 2022. As expected, McIlroy was positioned right behind Scheffler in both total bets and handle percentage.
In general, betting splits shouldn’t be meant to assist with one’s personal wagers. Its sole purpose is to provide context if you’re unfamiliar with a market. These details become more meaningless as the Masters inches closer, though.
Like any market, closing line value (CLV) on an outright bet is paramount. As the week progresses, this distinction is less evident within the Masters betting handle.
For instance, Cameron Smith (+2000), whose odds opened at +1400, became the sportsbook’s largest liability on Tuesday. These sorts of movements will continue to occur as the event draws closer.
Tiger Week Continues
For the second straight year, Tiger Woods is set at +6600 to emerge victorious after four rounds. It’s tied for his second-longest Masters betting odds in his 25 trips trips to Augusta National. His +6500 odds in 1996, the second time he competed at this major tournament, remain his most sizable Masters odds ever.
That said, the five-time Masters winner has tallied the most bets to make the cut (-200) among any golfer at BetMGM. Moreover, Woods also settled in as the sportsbook’s second-biggest outright liability — despite his odds increasing from +4000 to +6600.
The team at Circa also looks to be sweating a Woods victory:
“If Tiger wins this week, (bookmaker) Jeff Davis and the golf department will be looking for new employment,” Jeffrey Benson, Circa Sports’ director of operations, joked.
