The long wait for Massachusetts sports betting has come to a close. The Bay State is now accepting wagers at local retail sportsbooks. With the launch, residents can officially place action at Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, MGM Springfield in Springfield, and Raynham Park in Raynham.
We have more details below on when online sports betting in Massachusetts will launch.
Welcome, Massachusetts Sportsbooks!
Retail Massachusetts sportsbooks and local legislators are now celebrating the official start of the new market. The first bets are being placed right now with locals getting ready for Super Bowl 57 betting.
The launch follows months of meetings and regulatory discourse as the Massachusetts Gaming Commission worked tirelessly. Massachusetts casino locales have already embraced the new market and influx of patrons. This is a day of celebration on all fronts.
“We want to thank the state delegation to bring this to the finish line and to the Mass. Gaming Commission for ensuring the right regulations are in place,” said Beth Ward MGM Springfield spokesperson.
Public figures, including Springfield Domenic Sarno and Ray Bourque of the Boston Bruins, are reported to be onsite at retail sportsbooks placing wagers at the MGM Springfield. This location is home to a newly constructed sports betting lounge that is estimated to cost millions to develop. The lounge is on the casino floor with a 45-foot HD TV wall for live game viewing.
Massachusetts’ retail sports betting market is kicking off with a bang all over the state.
Online Sportsbooks On The Horizon
With retail betting now active, the MGC can put its full focus on launching online sportsbooks in the Bay State. The commission has already begun accepting betting licenses, with 11 approved total licenses already granted.
The target date for online sports betting remains sometime in March, as the commission aims to be live in time for March Madness betting. Locals can expect a more definitive date in the coming weeks as the commission continues to meet.
Online sports betting will be available statewide with a mixture of tethered and untethered sportsbooks available. Massachusetts locals can wager on all major professional sporting events with limited collegiate betting available.
In the meantime, fans can now travel to their local casino and bet on sports in the Bay State. Massachusetts sports betting is here.
