Although the integration of mobile wagering for Maryland sports betting has seen its fair share of delays ever since retail shops opened their doors in December 2021, a favorable development was announced on Wednesday. More details are below.

When Is Mobile Sports Betting In Maryland Expected?

Shortly after adding the state’s first non-casino sportsbook, Maryland sports betting regulators publicized that they’re attempting to jumpstart mobile sportsbooks before this season’s upcoming Super Bowl. While this chronology isn’t guaranteed, it’s certainly a positive note with the notion that mobile sports betting won’t arrive before NFL Week 1 odds kick off.

Specifically, regulators are reportedly targeting December 2022 — at the earliest — while late January or early February 2023 seems a bit more likely.

On top of that, the Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Control Agency have gifted the Washington Commanders a sports wagering license, according to ESPN’s David Purdham, meaning that the Commanders will soon showcase a sportsbook at FedEx Field.

According to Legal Sports Report, the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) was gathering monthly since August 2021 and has delayed the mobile sports betting launch in the process — mainly under the semblance of shifting towards well-rounded, in-state sportsbook industry.

“Unlike any other jurisdiction, there’s a significant deliberate effort to enable small businesses, minority-owned and women-owned business to have equity and participate in the new (Maryland) sports wagering industry,” SWARC Chairman Tom Brandt said in June.

Maryland Sports Betting Prospects For Local NFL Teams?

No one — and I mean no one — is expecting much long-term success for the Washington Commanders, which are led by the much maligned Carson Wentz. Over his the two seasons, Wentz has accounted for 29 total turnovers in 29 games.

But the Baltimore Ravensderailed by injuries in the 2021 campaign — are receiving interest in the Super Bowl futures market. In fact, they’ve been bet down to after opening around +3000 at some shops.
