Saturday: No. 1 UConn vs. No. 3 Illinois

In a rematch of last year’s national title game, the Huskies covered the spread — and then some — to advance to the Elite 8. Dan Hurley’s team manufactured a 50-29 rebounding advantage. Although Stephon Castle’s 16-point output finished behind Cam Spencer and Tristen Newton, his efficiency is a developing storyline for an already-loaded group.

Meanwhile, Illinois won straight up as an underdog against Iowa State despite missing 14 free throws. Terrence Shannon Jr. led the way with a game-high 29 points.

After briefly opening at -7.5 at DraftKings Sportsbook, UConn has risen to favorites. Here’s my full Elite 8 picks analysis for Saturday.

Saturday: No. 4 Alabama vs. No. 6 Clemson

If you’ve followed my work this season, those Clemson Final Four futures continue to move on. Unfortunately for Wildcats bettors, “bad” Caleb Love was in uniform against the Tigers, going 0-of-9 from deep with three turnovers. Clemson’s three NCAA tournament opponents have combined to shoot 18.7% from behind the arc, but head coach Brad Brownell deserves credit for constantly changing his defensive coverages.

Later, Alabama won a thriller against North Carolina, overcoming a three-point deficit with 1:32 left. North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson was the catalyst, delivering 24 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks. The final one in the latter category wiped away a last-second heave from UNC forward Harrison Ingram.

Per the table above, the Crimson Tide opened as -1.5 favorites at DraftKings before shifting to .

Sunday: No. 4 Duke vs. No. 11 NC State

The biggest storyline of the NCAA tournament played out in Dallas, with All-American point guard Jamal Shead suffering a badly sprained ankle in the first half against Duke. The Blue Devils, which closed as 4.5-point underdogs capitalized with a hard-fought 54-51 victory.

Like Arizona, Marquette dealt with horrific 3-point shooting luck (12.9%). NC State’s backcourt of DJ Horne and Casey Morsell capitalized on that rarity, combining for 34 points while helping Wolfpack moneyline bettors cash in at +260 odds. Kevin Keatts’ unit is the first No. 11 seed to reach the Elite 8 since UCLA made it out of the First Four in 2021.

Those results set up an All-ACC regional final, with Duke currently lined as favorites. It’s a rematch of the conference tournament quarterfinals, in which the Wolfpack pulled off the upset as 11-point underdogs.

Sunday: No. 1 Purdue vs. No. 2 Tennessee

Incredibly enough, this game represents the only region where the top seeds will square off in the final. Zach Edey, the odds-on two-time Wooden Award winner, dominated Gonzaga with a 27-point, 14-rebound outing. Purdue point guard Braden Smith chipped in with a robust 15 assists.

However, Tennessee isn’t an easy matchup, considering the Vols took down a similarly-constructed Creighton bunch in the nightcap. Rick Barnes’ crew also went toe-to-toe with the Boilermakers at the Maui Invitational. It was a foul-fest, with these teams combining for 78 free throws. The rematch could largely boil down to how the referees officiate Tennessee’s physicality against Edey.

Matt Painter’s squad opened as a 2.5-point favorite, and the best spread available is . Whether Painter or Barnes wins, it will be the first Final Four appearance for either.
