We have a true rarity on tap Thursday night, as there is a solitary game on the docket with the NBA deferring to the start of the NCAA’s March Madness action. It also happens to be a battle between the two teams with the worst records in the Eastern Conference. However, any time there’s action on the hardwood, there’s betting interest, making a closer look worthwhile.

Thursday March 17 NBA odds

Here are Thursday March 17 NBA odds with point spreads, moneylines and totals.

What to watch for today

Feisty Pistons get potential break in schedule against reeling Magic: Detroit’s aforementioned abysmal season – the Pistons are 18-51, including 7-28 on the road – has seen Dwane Casey’s club nevertheless give quality teams plenty of trouble. Even the four-game losing streak they enter with Thursday is a fitting example, as Detroit has lost contenders Chicago, Boston, the L.A. Clippers and Miami by 11 points or fewer. Additionally, Cade Cunningham and company sandwiched wins against the Celtics and Cavaliers around the All-Star break and also have already topped the Raptors and Hawks during March.

Given the caliber of their last four opponents, Thursday’s matchup against the Magic seems like a much-needed breath of fresh air, at least on paper. After all, Orlando is 18-52 in its own right and was just eviscerated by the Nets on Tuesday by a 150-108 score, a game in which Kyrie Irving racked up a career-high 60 points. The loss was the Magic’s second straight, but much like their opponent, they’ve also given plenty of quality teams trouble this season. As such, it’s not totally surprising the hosts are four-point favorites, especially with Cunningham questionable due to an illness.
