Louisiana bettors have been able to fire away on sports bets since early October, but state regulators limited their action to in-person sportsbooks. That’s about to change. According to local politics reporter Greg Hilburn, Louisiana online sports betting will launch on Friday, Jan. 28 at 8 a.m.

Word came from Gambling Control Board Chair Ronnie Johns, who told Hilburn he’s excited for the market to open in time to accept betting on the AFC and NFC title games.

Mobile Betting Arrives A Little Behind Schedule

Legal sports betting first passed into law in Louisiana back in 2020, but it took until October 2021 for the market to launch. Both tribal and commercial casinos received approval to begin taking sports bets that month.

Johns targeted Jan. 1, 2022 as a launch date for the mobile sports betting market, but it appears things got a little behind schedule. By launching several weeks later, the state government did miss the chance to add tax revenues from bets collected throughout the NFL playoffs.

However, as Johns noted, the NFL Conference Championships are still to come. As is, of course, the all-important Super Bowl. Super Bowl betting figures to be the single biggest windfall of the year for Louisiana mobile sports betting.

Which Sports Betting Apps Can I Use In Louisiana?

We won’t know for sure which sports betting apps will be available until after launch. With Friday being just two days before the potentially lucrative NFL Conference Championships, operators will have a strong incentive to be ready for launch day.

We can make a few guesses, however.

One app that seems sure to be available eventually is Caesars Sportsbook. They signed a sponsorship deal in the offseason to get naming rights to the Saints’ home stadium, and they run a popular local casino in New Orleans.

Other likely contenders include DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, BetMGM Sportsbook and PointsBet Sportsbook.

Keep an eye out for sign-up bonuses and special promo offers from each in the coming days as Louisiana mobile sports betting gets rolling.
