Details On Lakers NBA Title Odds
Caesars reported that the Lakers NBA title odds tallied roughly 52% of the handle from Thursday at 2:57 p.m. ET (when the Durant rumors tipped off) to Friday at 8 a.m. ET. As a result, their futures shifted from +2200 to +1000. That’s good for the sportsbook’s biggest championship liability and the seventh-shortest NBA title odds, respectively.
Make no mistake about it. The alteration has plenty to do with Nets point guard Kyrie Irving. While the 11-year veteran opted into his $37 million player option with Brooklyn for next season, the league-wide sentiment is that general manager Sean Marks will trade Irving if Durant is dealt as well.
Should that scenario play out, Irving is reportedly interested in teaming back up LeBron James — this time in Los Angeles. The two won the 2016 NBA Finals with Cavaliers, overcoming a 3-1 series deficit against the Warriors as +180 series underdogs.
“He’s (Irving) been telling people he wants to be in L.A., he’s been telling people he wants to wear the same uniform that Kobe Bryant once wore,” ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said on Thursday.
Oddly enough, Durant and Irving would have played in just 44 games in three seasons as teammates if they go their separate ways. For greater context, Golden State’s Steph Curry and Klay Thompson played 45 games together this year despite Thompson missing half of the season.
With the Lakers NBA title odds adjustment in mind, below are Irving’s “Next NBA Team” odds (via DraftKings). James & Co. are the odds on favorite for his services (-125), which would — in all likelihood — end Russell Westbrook’s stint in Los Angeles. Could Durant also potentially land there in a package?
