The Lions failed to back up their Week 1 upset. If they put together a second straight poor performance and can’t get it done as favorites this week against Atlanta, then with the KC game farther in the rearview, that would probably solidify the Packers as favorites. Even a Green Bay loss, barring a complete blowout, would probably keep the Packers as very short favorites. A lot of preseason hype followed the Lions, and they’ll need to start showing they deserve the market love.

Sunday Night Football Odds

A matchup that once caused excitement among fans now looks like a potential dud. Aaron Rodgers vs. Patrick Mahomes appears fated to never happen — Mahomes was injured in the first scheduled meeting, while Rodgers missed the second with COVID.

As for the market here, Zach Wilson has a chance to show he’s conquered some demons in Week 3. A matchup with Bill Belichick’s defense looks brutal, as the mastermind completely befuddled Wilson in last year’s meetings. It seems like a longshot. But if Wilson can show any ability to move the offense, this would potentially settle with the Chiefs -7 rather than giving the hook.

Monday Night Football Odds

Who should be favored with Seattle heading to New York to play the Giants? That question appears to have sparked some disagreement in the market, as Caesars Sportsbook opened with the home team short favorites. Other shops look to have leaned the other way.

Certainly, few teams have tanked market perception more quickly than the Giants. They followed up a blowout loss with barely escaping the doormat Cardinals. With another awful performance — which certainly looks likely as huge underdogs to the 49ers in Thursday Night Football odds — expect the Seahawks to reopen as favorites here on Sunday night.

Vikings At Panthers

Will the Panthers be a competitive team in 2023? Caesars Sportsbook’s trading team still appears to have some belief. Others, not so much.

Bryce Young followed up a mistake-filled debut with another dreadful game, barely leading the offense anywhere until a final garbage-time touchdown. He has a very plum assignment in Week 3 against the Seahawks, so if he continues to show he can’t move the ball, then even the Vikings -3 here will likely look too short. Say what you want about their defense, but Minnesota is going to get theirs in almost every case on offense, so Young has to establish some base level of competence or the Vikings will be laying the hook, at least.

Dolphins At Bills

Decent to huge underdogs across three 2022 matchups, Miami stood up to the divisional bullies in each case, booking a win and two competitive losses. Even as monster dogs in the playoffs, the Dolphins didn’t make things easy on the Bills, harassing Josh Allen into multiple turnovers that portended doom the following week against Cincinnati.

Yet, despite that success, and despite looking like one of the best teams in the NFL in the early going, the Dolphins are getting +3.5 in early markets here. Both teams are expected to win in Week 3, so if either falters, that could affect the line here. But, it’s certainly hard to see the Bills going any farther past -3.5 barring a key injury.
