NFL Week 3 look ahead lines

NFL Week 3 look-ahead lines are out. It’s not a particularly exciting week of NFL action, with a number of large favorites on the board. However, one storyline definitely bears watching. Can Zach Wilson, unexpectedly piloting the Jets once again, establish any sort of market respect heading into a very tough divisional matchup with the Patriots defense?

Every week, usually on Friday, TheLines will post look-ahead lines for the following week’s games, pulled from NFL betting sites. These look aheads give an early snapshot of the current market opinions of teams absent the week-to-week bias that can take hold following weekend results. Week 3 NFL NFL Primetime Games

Thursday Night Football Odds

Probably no single NFL result could do more damage to a team in the eyes of the market than losing against the Arizona Cardinals. And with this opener teetering on double digits, the most obvious potential change here is probably a move on 49ers odds toward -10 or even -10.5 if the Giants produce another stinker in Week 2. If you like the Niners here, probably best to fire early.

Sunday Night Football Odds

With a national TV game in Week 2, the Steelers have a chance to make an impression heading into Sunday Night Football. Certainly, they could use a positive showing after the drubbing they endured against the 49ers.

Meanwhile, the Raiders offense had a nice performance in Week 1 and drew a very difficult assignment in the Bills for Week 2. If they can spring an upset, we’ll likely see the Raiders’ odds move to short favorites.

However, the more likely and impactful move would be the Steelers inching closer to the key number of -3.

Monday Night Football Odds

Much like the Steelers, the Eagles get an island game to try to right the ship after a bit of a rough Week 1 showing in which the Patriots arguably outplayed them. Most critically, bettors would probably like to see them slow down an opposing passing attack, no easy feat when Justin Jefferson is involved. Expect to see Eagles -7 here if the Super Bowl odds standouts revert to form.

Monday Night Football Odds

Speaking of Super Bowls, the Monday Night Football late billing features a rematch from the 2021 season finale, though one could hardly call it highly anticipated given what’s transpired in LA since. Both of these teams wildly differed from expectations in Week 1, with the Bengals completely embarrassing themselves while the Rams served notice they won’t be bottom-feeders unless or until injuries start to hit again.

Repeat performances could see this line drop to consensus Bengals -7 or even -6.5. However, given the difficulty of the Rams’ assignment (at San Francisco) and the Bengals’ status as favorites, that doesn’t appear very likely.

MORE POTENTIAL WEEK 2 IMPACT ON WEEK 3 LOOK-AHEAD LINES

Bills At Commanders

It didn’t bear watching for most NFL fans aside from those sweating NFL survivor pools, but Washington played an extremely ugly game in Week 1. Things are not set up for a bounce back on the road against a tough Denver defense.

Meanwhile, few teams have a more clear bounce-back opportunity than Buffalo. Bills odds have them as huge favorites this week, as Josh Allen playing a clean game would go a long way toward easing market apprehension. The Raiders defense should offer respite. If Allen composes himself, the market expectation should shift from a competitive game to the Bills laying at least a touchdown.

Patriots At Jets

Zach Wilson could not have asked for a more difficult 2023 starting debut. The Jets draw the ferocious Cowboys pass rush in Week 2, and Wilson has been an adventure at best under pressure, a walking turnover at worst. The market has extremely low expectations there with a Jets implied team total of 17.

Wilson got completely embarrassed by the Patriots last season. The Jets scored 20 total and the young QB had more interceptions than touchdowns while absorbing six sacks. Watch for a Patriots -3 if the Cowboys do their best to cause a flashback.

HOW TO USE NFL LOOK-AHEAD LINES

The look-ahead lines allow you a sneak peek at the projected lines for the following week’s games. This information from a leading online sportsbook will help provide lessons in understanding lines and projections before the current week’s games are played.

Many bettors tend to overreact to the previous week’s scores and results. The NFL Week 3 look-ahead lines provide a sense of stability from the oddsmaker. They sometimes offer a clear, unbiased snapshot of perceived team strength.

Bettors can also gain an edge or find value in the lines once the weekend results take hold. See if you can find any over- or under-reactions by the market.

Of course, always take note of key injuries, travel and scheduling situations, and NFL power rankings. Making adjustments is part of the process, along with accounting for teams’ strengths and weaknesses, against-the-spread angles, and personnel matchups.
