The PGCB (Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board) has reported a 5.99% leap in total revenue year-over-year for gambling.

The total revenue figures came to $591,090,324, the PGCB reported this week. This covers all forms of legal and regulated gambling in PA, including online.

Retail and online slots claimed the lion’s share in Pennsylvania with over $400 million in combined gaming revenue. However, there was also a big rise in sports betting revenues, up 27.75% year-over-year.

2026 World Cup Drives Sports Betting Revenues

Sports wagering revenue in Pennsylvania leaped nearly 28% year-over-year, according to the latest PGCB figures reported this week.

Takings from sports betting surpassed $51 million, up from $40.5 million last year. That was undoubtedly helped by the FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the USA during June and July.

Total handle was up 23.53% year over year, with many land-based casinos reporting increases in sports wagering revenue.

However, casinos with a larger table-game and slots footprint reported significant year-over-year losses. Mount Airy Casino Resort recorded a $48,274 loss, down over 300% compared to July 2025.

Daily Fantasy Contests Continue to Perform Well

In addition to sports betting, fantasy sports revenue was up in Pennsylvania for the month.

Undoubtedly driven by the World Cup, most DFS providers in PA experienced year-over-year increases.

Sportshub was the big winner in terms of percentage growth (168.29%), though its fantasy revenue only grew from $169 to $455.

At the top of the table were, predictably, DraftKings and FanDuel. DraftKings recorded $629,777 in July fantasy contest revenue, a jump of over 46% compared to last year. Rivals, FanDuel, also reported an increase of nearly 56%, with revenue of $111,995.

PA Moves Toward Microbetting Ban

Pennsylvania has had a pro-gambling approach for several years, being one of the first in the U.S. to legalize online gaming and sports betting. Though sports wagering revenues have been impressive, there are still moves to crack down on certain types of bets.

In July, PA lawmakers completed a sports betting study, concluding that so-called “microbetting” was leading to gambling addiction.

Rep. Tarik Khan (D-Philadelphia) is proposing a bill to outlaw microbetting, essentially in-game prop bets that proliferate at regulated sportsbooks.

Microbets are single-event outcomes on everything from the next ace scored in a tennis game to the next corner earned in a soccer match.

Other proposals include a further clampdown on credit card payments and a stop to gambling access at PA schools.

Such a proposal was already suggested back in June by Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington) and would help curb abuse. If PA Gambling Control Board figures are anything to go by, the growth in gambling may bring those curbs sooner rather than later.
