Golden Nugget Laid Bare in New ‘Secret Life of a Vegas Casino’ Show

The inner workings of the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas have been laid bare in a brand-new Discovery Channel documentary series.
‘Secret Live of a Vegas Casino’ opens the doors of one of Sin City’s most iconic casinos, revealing the day-to-day struggles of the staff as they battle high rollers, drunken fights, and other emergencies.
Golden Nugget’s world-famous shark tank even gets an airing as insiders show how they move the giant fish.
Cindy O’Keefe the Star
Episode 1 of ‘Secret Life of a Vegas Casino’ dropped this week and revealed the trials and tribulations of the casino staff. Operational General Manager Cindy O’Keefe is seen overseeing an operation that must handle thousands of guests and gamblers daily.
She explained to TV Insider that the show had been in the planning for a year, with a television crew on site since March this year. Initial worries over whether the staff were “interesting enough” are dispelled as a myriad of issues crop up that need dealing with.
In the first episode – ‘The Good, the Bad and the Unlucky’ – the Golden Nugget surveillance team look out for card counters (yes, card counting is still a thing). Elsewhere, high rollers are kept in check – or rather, helped to keep playing after hitting a long hot streak.

Latest Move for Tilman Fertitta
Opening the doors to the Golden Nugget is just the latest news headline for owner, Tilman Fertitta.
The billionaire owner of the Houston Rockets purchased the Golden Nugget in 2005 and launched a huge refurbishment of the property. The casino celebrated its eightieth birthday last month. Fertitta went on to open the Golden Nugget Atlantic City (a former Trump Resorts property).
As if that isn’t enough for the Fertitta plate, he also acts as U.S. ambassador to Italy, a post he has held since 2025. Fertitta is of Sicilian descent and speaks some Italian.
Fertitta Move for Ceasars Approved
In May, Fertitta Entertainment made an audacious bid to purchase Caesars Entertainment in a $17.6 billion move. The Caesars board of directors rubber-stamped the sale last week. It consists of nearly $6 billion in cash and around $12 billion of Caesars debts.
Once the deal goes through, Fertitta will be one of the biggest players in Las Vegas. Its portfolio will contain the Golden Nugget, Caesars Palace, Paris, Harrah’s, and Planet Hollywood.
Speaking to local media about the deal, analyst Jeremy Aguero said that he was optimistic, adding that the level of investment “had the capacity” to “put back into our community”.
However, there are warnings that Fertitta may need to scale back its ever-growing portfolio of U.S. casinos for antitrust reasons. Certainly, one of the group’s Atlantic City properties may need to be sold.
Online Gambling Properties Follow
The Caesars deal also puts Fertitta Entertainment in charge of some of the biggest online gambling sites in the U.S., too.
In addition to 60 casino resorts, Caesars operates online casinos in most regulated states, including Michigan and New Jersey. Additionally, its Caesars online sportsbook is operational in over 30 U.S. states, including Maine, which went live in the summer.
And finally, Caesars runs WSOP Online, the official online poker sites of the World Series of Poker. Maybe we need a ‘Secret Life of Fertitta Entertainment’ show to follow on Discovery?
