When will Kevin Durant be back and return to Nets?
Update: Kevin Durant is expected to play Thursday against the Miami Heat as Durant was not listed on the Nets’ injury report Wednesday.
Here we will continue to provide updates on when will Kevin Durant be back and return to the floor. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported back on Jan. 16 that there was “optimism within the Nets that it would be a 4 to 6 week rehab and return for Kevin Durant.”
Durant began doing some on-court work the week of February 7.
A more in-depth report on the injury by the New York Post’s Brian Lewis last month also expressed optimism that Durant would be back relatively soon.
“Regarding all of the ligaments to possibly injure in his knee, from what we’ve read regarding this injury, Mr. Durant’s isolated MCL sprain may actually be a best-case scenario,” Dr. Justen Elbayar, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at NY Langone Health, told the Post in a Jan. 19 report. “In terms of a timeline back, it really depends on the grade of the injury. With lower grade sprains we’ve seen athletes come back to basketball in 4 to 6 weeks. This could be a bit longer with higher grade sprains. With around 3 months left in the season there’s a great chance he’ll be back to help the team.”
By most indications, somewhere around 7 weeks seems to be the time table here. Brooklyn will surely not want to rush their superstar player back. With that in mind, here are potential return dates for Durant, corresponding with the Nets’ schedule.
- 6 Weeks: Feb. 28 vs. Raptors
- 7 Weeks: March 6 at Celtics
- 8 Weeks: March 13 vs. Knicks
- 9 Weeks: March 21 vs. Jazz
Kevin Durant MVP odds
Kevin Durant had been the co-favorite to win NBA MVP this year at the time of his injury, along with former teammate Steph Curry. Despite the fact that KD will likely miss over 20 games, he will still have an outside shot at MVP when he returns.
Durant had +3500 odds to win NBA MVP on Feb. 4. That price was the eighth lowest as Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, Giannis, Curry, Ja Morant, Devin Booker and Chris Paul were higher on the board.
Here are Durant’s current prices.
Nets title odds
