Kentucky Governor Discusses First Two Weeks Of Sports Betting
Retail sportsbooks in Kentucky went live back on Sept. 7, giving three weeks of NFL betting to locals before online sportsbooks in Kentucky go live Thursday, Sept. 28. Gov. Andy Beshear gave an update this week on how the market has faired so far. Let’s look at how locals have already begun embracing Kentucky sports betting.
Kentucky Sports Betting Early Returns Bode Well
For starters, local sportsbooks in Kentucky saw $4.5 million wagered since launch. This is a strong showing as mobile betting has not yet gone live. Sports betting fans have embraced the betting market out of the gate.
“This is a strong number that certainly reflects the excitement Kentuckians have for the opening of sports wagering,” said Beshear. “With college football and the NFL season underway, plus the launch of mobile wagering, we expect that number will grow significantly.”
Pre-Registration For Kentucky Mobile Apps Skyrocket
Gov. Beshear also revealed that more than 60,000 mobile betting accounts have already been pre-registered. This means that locals have begun downloading and creating their betting accounts in anticipation of the mobile launch.
Beshear has also noted that not all application licenses have been reported on; the actual figures are likely far greater. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) gave the okay for operators to begin the pre-registration process on Aug. 28, giving fans a month to prepare for mobile betting. Bettors have jumped on that option.
“It has taken many years to get here, but sports wagering is finally a reality in Kentucky,” continued Beshar. “This is a win-win for Kentuckians, who can enjoy a quality entertainment experience and benefit from funds staying right here in our state to help us build a better Kentucky.”
