Kentucky Sports Betting Launches September 2023
In March of this year, Kentucky sports betting legislation HB 551 was approved in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Gov. Andy Beshear, an avid supporter of sports betting in Kentucky, signed the measure into law following the final vote. This regulated the sports betting market.
Under the law, both retail and online sports betting was legal in Kentucky. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) was granted regulatory authority over the local betting market, finalizing the sports betting regulations in July. The commission set the retail sports betting launch date for Sept. 7 and the online sports betting launch for Sept. 28.
Over the past few months, operators have partnered with local Kentucky racetracks. These partnerships are required for operators to secure sports betting licenses.

What Bettors Can Expect From The New Kentucky Market
Kentucky has a wide selection of sports to wager on compared to other markets. In addition to betting lines on all major sporting events, Kentucky operators can offer odds on more niche markets like Major League Eating and Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest. Bettors can also wager on college sports, including local teams. Even before the market launch, regulators had already expanded the sports betting catalog.
Bettors can also expect many sign-up offers and recurring promos like odds boosts beginning today. Customers can secure these bonuses by clicking the banner on this page. That’s not a bad way to welcome online sports betting into the state.
