2023 Kentucky Derby Schedule

Here’s how the race — coined the “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports” — will be covered. All times below are EST.

  • TV: NBC, Peacock, NBCSports.com, NBC Sports app
  • Location: Churchill Downs, Louisville, Ky.
  • Date: Saturday, May 6, 2023
  • Post time: 6:57 p.m. EST (TV coverage from noon-7:30 p.m.)

Just like NASCAR, with the Daytona 500, the Triple Crown races tip off via the Derby. The Preakness and Belmont Stakes follow suit.

As previously alluded to, Skinner was the latest contestant scratched from the Kentucky Derby field because of an elevated temperature. As a result, the Kentucky Derby field is down to 19 starters. Practical Move, Lord Miles, and Continuar (JPN) were also scratched on Thursday. The last time four horses were removed from the Derby was in 2015. That go-around, 22 horses participated in the race.

There is plenty of horse racing action throughout the remainder of the day. It all begins at 10:30 a.m. with the initial sprint — broadcasted on both FS2 and FanDuel TV.

The more notable races officially start at shortly after noon on NBC, Peacock, NBCSports.com, and NBC Sports app.

Also, don’t forget that the Kentucky Oaks takes place Friday at 5:51 p.m. That race showcases the best young fillies and will have Oaks/Derby doubles betting available.
