Kentucky Derby payouts

Kentucky Derby payouts will be available right after the horse race at Churchill Downs concludes today. Derby payouts will include win, place and show results.

  • Win
  • Place
  • Show
  • Exacta
  • Trifecta
  • Superfecta

A win at the Kentucky Derby means your horse finished in first place. Place means that your horse finished in either first or second. Show means that your horse finished in either first, second or third place.

An exacta bet is a wager in which you correctly pick the first two horses that finish in order. A trifecta bet is when a horse bettor correctly picks the first three finishers in order. Superfecta betting is when someone nails the first four finishers in a horse race like the Kentucky Derby.

How does horse race betting work?

You may be wondering how does horse race betting work if you are a novice bettor. Horse race betting in the United States and Canada is a little different than typical sports betting. Traditional wagering on the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL operates with fixed odds.

Horse racing, on the other hand, operates as pool betting. This pool betting is called the pari-mutuel betting system. All of the bets on the Kentucky Derby will be placed together in pools. You are essentially betting against other bettors instead of betting against a sportsbook.
