2024 Kentucky Derby Odds: Futures Pool No. 4 Opening Odds
This futures pool will be the most intriguing. Seven of the horses face each other in the $400,000 Risen Star Stakes Saturday at Fair Grounds. The winner obtains 50 points, traditionally enough to guarantee a qualifying berth in the Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs on May 4.
The futures pool is pari-mutuel until the odds lock at 6 p.m. Sunday. The Risen Star winner may thus have a substantially lower price on Sunday versus Friday, giving gamblers plenty of time to ponder over when and how heavily to wager.

Risen Star Stakes Horses To Watch
Track Phantom, whom we highlighted as top value at 60-1 before Pool No. 3, triumphed in the Lecomte and is down to 20-1. He also figures to be one of the Risen Star top betting choices. Futures odds on Track Phantom could fluctuate substantially over the weekend if he wins the Risen Star.
Sierra Leone, 15-1: was 36-1 after Pool No. 2 and 30-1 after Pool 3. These are his lowest odds of the campaign. Interestingly, his odds change does not reflect a recent performance, merely the expectation of improvement. He was second to Dornoch (15-1) at the Remsen in November. He is one of the top contenders in the Risen Star.
Hall of Fame (20-1) already notched a 94 Beyer speed figure, tops in the Risen Star field.

Other Horses To Know
Outside of this race, another horse getting play is Mystik Dan. He is 20-1 after rallying to win the Southwest at 21-1 in January. He came from sixth, gained the lead around the turn, and destroyed the field in the home stretch. It earned him a 101 Beyer, tops among Kentucky-Derby eligibles.
Mystik Dan is probable for the Arkansas Derby on March 30.
Ironically, he’s been on and off the futures board. He was 99-1 after Pool No. 2 and not listed in Pool 3. The last victory elevated his betting profile.
No Threat of Bob Baffert Horses
Nysos, the circuit leader with a 105 Beyer, is not eligible for the Kentucky Derby. He is trained by Bob Baffert, who remains under an indefinite suspension from Churchill Downs Inc. over Medina Spirit’s disputed drug test in 2021. Unlike past years, Baffert announced his owners will not switch any of their horses to other trainers this winter to be eligible for Derby qualifying points in prep races.
