2024 Kentucky Derby Odds: Futures Pool No. 6 Opening Odds
Unlike prior pools, gamblers will not have to worry about Saturday stakes races impacting their pari-mutuel odds. These KY Derby odds close before the $750,000 Wood Memorial, $1 million Blue Grass Stakes, and $750,000 Santa Anita Derby can affect futures betting prices. This is the only pool to contain that feature. Previous pools ended on Sunday evenings, enabling Saturday results to impact closing odds.

Risen Star Stakes champion Sierra Leone remains squarely priced at 6-1, while Catching Freedom is the third and final entry in single digits. His impressive victory in the Louisiana Derby dropped him from 30-1 to 8-1, This might be a better price than he’ll receive in the Kentucky Derby.
Forever Young leaped from 20-1 to 10-1 odds after his stalking victory in the UAE Derby. He clocked nearly two seconds faster than 2023 winner Derma Sotogake, who finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby and second in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Deterministic has gone from 30-1 to 15-1 after his determined stalking triumph in the Gotham Stakes off a seven-month layoff. His backers benefit from the betting gates being locked before the Wood Memorial, in which he is scheduled to run. He is lightly raced at 2-for-2. Just Steel remains an excellent value at 25-1. He’s down from 80-1 in Pool No. 5 after his staunch effort to gain second behind Muth in the Arkansas Derby. Figure him to lurk under the Kentucky Derby radar and go off at a price.
Don’t bet on Timberlake, according to his trainer, Brad Cox. According to published reports Tuesday night, Cox said Timberlake won’t start in the Kentucky Derby despite having the qualifying points to do so.
Cox believes the 1 1/4-mile distance is not in the best range of his horse, who faded to fourth in the 1 1/8-mile Arkansas Derby. (Therein lies the risk element of the risk-reward equation of futures betting. Timberlake had been one of the favorites, 8-1, after winning the Rebel Stakes).
The field bet represented as All Other 3-Year-Olds, has now become a pretty big number, at 30-1. Early in the betting pools, this entry was the favorite. It makes sense for the odds to go up as oddsmakers believe major stakes races will produce the ultimate winner.
