Kentucky Derby Odds: FanDuel Racing Analyst Scott Hazelton Fancies ‘Just A Touch’ At 10-1
While Sierra Leone and Fierceness have received well-deserved hype among Kentucky Derby odds, other intriguing horses in the 20-horse field are worthy of consideration. Just a Touch, priced at 10-1 on the morning-line odds board, fits the bill. In fact, FanDuel TV analyst Scott Hazelton believes he is worth picking to win the 150th Run for the Roses. Below, you’ll find out why.

Kentucky Derby odds: just a touch’s prospects
Just a Touch originates from the second batch of foals sired by Justify, the 13th American Triple Crown winner.
His career debut as a three-year-old came in January, emerging victorious in a six-furlong race on Fair Grounds’ mushy track. In the Grade 3, $300,000 Gotham Stakes, he finished second by two lengths.
He followed up his first two starts with a trip to Keeneland for the $1 million Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes on April 6. In a 10-horse field, Just a Touch didn’t disappoint, placing second behind wire-to-wire victor Sierra Leone. As a result, Just a Touch tallied 50 qualifying Derby points, generating a total of 75 points for a guaranteed post in the fastest two minutes in sports.
Why Bet On Just a Touch?
Whether you’re considering the difficulty of contending in a 20-horse field or the track at Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby presents its fair share of arduous elements. That’s why Hazelton isn’t bullish on Fierceness’ odds, even at 4-1 morning-line odds after opening at 5-2.
According to Hazelton, Fierceness hasn’t exhibited what’s necessary to pull away in a race when the conditions aren’t ideal. The potential variance in play caused Hazelton to place a straight bet on Just a Touch, which has yet to reach his peak market value. He’s also earned a win on a wet surface, a variable that could strike Churchill Downs on Saturday.
“I don’t think we’ve seen him (Just A Touch) quite get to the point where we expect him to be — until this Saturday,” Hazelton told TheLines.com. “The way that he’s trained, the way that he ran at the Blue Grass a few weeks back, the way that his trainer Brad Cox has talked about him, he’ll be 5-ish-to-1. … He might even vie for second choice (behind Fierceness).”
Experience is usually the knock against a horse like Just a Touch. But that is precisely Hazelton’s point. If there was more to his resume, his 10-1 odds would be much shorter. Remember that his odds have already dipped from the 20-1 range in recent futures pools, so there’s certainly been interest in him.
