The Word On Zandon

April 29: Per Travis Stone on Twitter, “Zandon looks like a monster and is getting every ounce of buzz right now. And many sharpies…have been on this train for weeks.”

May 3: Trainer Chad Brown on his post position: “Perfect. We’re ready to go.”

Betting insight from Dave Bontempo

Zandon turned heads as he posted a 100 Beyer Speed Figure while taking down 2-1 favorite Smile Happy in the Blue Grass Stakes. He rallied at the end, capitalizing on his role as a closer. Also notable, Zandon upended Smile Happy, who had beaten him previously in the Risen Star Stakes.

Improvement is something to look for in these horses and Zandon improved from the Risen Star to Blue Grass. This type of evolution will almost certainly give him some momentum heading into the Kentucky Derby.
