College Sports Betting Rules Vary By State

Some states that have entered the legal betting market have imposed varying limits on their populace betting on college sports, out of integrity concerns. For New York State bettors, they can bet on college sports – but not on any team located in New York. Others have that clause, except in tournaments like March Madness.

Given the importance of integrity of college athletics, there have been questions as to whether or not such prohibitions or conditions would be on the table for the Kansas launch – and whether such limitations are plausible in a state with two Big 12 football teams and Kansas and Wichita State basketball.

Colleges have long opposed legal sports betting on these integrity grounds, but in recent years have followed the trend of dropping, or limiting, their opposition. That said, they’ve still pushed in some places for the limitation of legal betting on their in-state teams, to avoid any prospect of impropriety – or of the appearance of it.

Fortunately for bettors, Kansas has come to an answer that will be quite good for bettors.

College Sports Betting Is Legal In Kansas

In the regulations ironed out for the Kansas legal sports betting market to open, there is NO prohibition or restrictions on betting on college sports.

The soft launch is even happening the day before the first Kansas football game to facilitate some bets on that game, but to be clear – none of the potential limitations on bettors betting on their favorite college team or their alma maters exists.

There is no tournament exception to a ban, there is no ban on in-state teams, none of it.

So long as you have signed up for an account with a sportsbook with a Kansas license, and are physically in the state of Kansas, you’ll be able to bet on college sports and your favorite teams – or against your biggest rivals, if that’s more your speed.
