Justin Fields MVP Odds

As the NFL preseason kicks off, fans are placing action on NFL futures odds, specifically betting on the NFL MVP. Despite coming off of a league-worst 3-14 record, Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields MVP odds are seeing the most action at PointsBet. Fields is a longshot to win the award but has become an early fan favorite at the best sports betting sites.

What Excites Fans About Justin Fields

Fields did manage to receive one MVP vote during his rookie season. It appears fans are expecting a major leap from Fields. The young QB is seeing more wagers placed on him than Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow combined. In terms of total handle, Fields has seen more wagered than Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Justin Herbert combined.

During the 2022 regular season, Fields finished with 2,242 passing yards on 60.4% completion and a 54.0 QBR. Fields also threw 17 TDs and 11 interceptions and was sacked 55 times. While those numbers seem average at best, it was the growth that stood out to fans. Fields improved drastically from his rookie season of 1,870 yards, 31.4 QBR, and 58.9% completion for 7 TDs and 10 interceptions.

The Bears were also one of the worse defensive teams in the league last year. Chicago gave up the fourth most total yards on the season and was dead last in total points allowed. The Bears’ struggles are not fully viewed as a Fields issue, giving fans hope that the young stud could have another leap in his third year alongside team improvement.

Can Fields Win NFL MVP?

If fans are looking to bet on the NFL MVP, the most logical play would be to wager on a QB. Since the turn of the century, a QB has won MVP every year outside of four. At a minimum, taking Fields to win MVP is a more logical wager than a non-QB for that reason.

Non QBs To Win MVP Since 2000

  • 2000: Marshall Faulk, Rams RB
  • 2005: Shaun Alexander, Seahawks RB
  • 2006: LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers RB
  • 2012: Adrian Peterson, Vikings RB

It is safe to assume a QB will be the 2023 MVP. Putting a little on Fields long odds could be a wise move for bettors. Longshots have seen recent success come award season. In 2018, Patrick Mahomes opened with 100/1 odds to win MVP. He would go on to have a historic season and give early bettors a massive payday.

Lamar Jackson’s 2019 MVP season was also a longshot winning, opening with 100/1 odds as well. With recent successes like these, it is not a strange move that fans are backing long odds on Fields ahead of Week 1.

In order for Fields to have a shot at winning, however, the Bears need to see major improvements. Chicago currently sits with the longest odds to win the NFC North.

Additionally, sportsbooks set Chicago’s win total at just 7.5 games this season. While operators are not expecting much improvement, fans seem to be hopeful.

This is a longshot wager. There is no indication outside of the eye test that Fields will suddenly place himself in the upper echelon of QBs or that the Bears will dominate. Still, NFL betting fans in mass are hoping for a miracle this season with Fields and the Bears. Best of luck if you are one of the many at PointsBet who took the plunge on Justin Fields MVP odds.
